Escape Studios Animation Blog: Escape Studios Visits Cinesite

“Rainbow Spotlight” event at Cinesite in Soho

Escape Studios Students visited the London VFX and animation studio Cinesite recently for  a “Rainbow Spotlight” event – hosted by Cinesite at their Soho premises.

Among the guests were a number of our students as well as Escape Studios’ animation tutor Kevin Richards – who reported on the event.

Frameless

This event was a great talk by the people behind Frameless in Marble Arch, who have commissioned The Sistine Chapel Immersive Experience, involving a new immersive animation medium, which projects complex – wrap around imagery on the inside of a big room. In this example, Michaelangelo’s famous Sistine Chapel Painting was recreated and brought to life with animation.

Frameless also adapted Rembrandt’s famous painting, Storm on the Sea of Galilee. The lecture provided significant insight into the difficulty of interpreting Rembrandt’s unique style of brush strokes into an immersive, digital, moving medium. The audience was given a superlative demonstration of the various iterations of how this great painting was re -created in 3 dimensions, how the water was animated to rise and swell withing the room, making it appear to the viewer as if they were in the middle of the ocean itself.

This great event is one of several occurring in conjunction with BYOA over the current autumn term. This even was attended by a number of Escapees, who gathered new experiences of the industry and those all important Linkedin contacts.
