HarmonyOS 7 will bring these game features to Huawei phones

HarmonyOS 7.0 is running in the closed beta phase, and in the meantime, a new SDK version has suggested what significant game features the upcoming iteration can bring to Huawei devices. The company has already given a small glimpse of this subject.

Amid the limited software testing stage, Huawei has revealed some new game features that will likely debut with HarmonyOS 7.0. These features are still under consideration but will probably appear in the stable version.

The first feature is AI super-resolution. It claims to deliver visuals beyond the original (native) resolution of the device. The company has used the power of the NPU and GPU to enable edge-side super-resolution, achieving higher gaming resolutions.

Resolution refers to the total number of tiny dots called pixels, arranged across the width and height of a display. With new AI algorithms, the device will deliver superior visual effects.

Another feature on the list is AI super-frame. Apart from clearer visuals, the company will also improve energy efficiency by further enhancing smoothness.

The AI super-frame will boost the average frame rate by 13.6% while reducing the average power consumption by 21.4%. Huawei has made full use of NPU computing resources, lessening visual and responsiveness issues during motion.

Separate Control and Display is next in the queue. The feature is mainly for foldable phones. The device’s top screen displays the game while the bottom part shows gaming controls such as buttons and other info, improving game immersion.

Huawei has used this feature to deliver a new immersive handheld gaming experience with 30% improved picture quality and 9.2% lower game power consumption.

HarmonyOS 7 will bring real-time ray tracing hardware acceleration support to Huawei devices. It changes lighting in game scenarios in real-time as per the ongoing scene, delivering more realistic and immersive visuals.

The tech giant has further optimized the Game HDR function, which now offers flexible adjustment, hue-preserving tone mapping, and inverse tone mapping for game adaptation. The SDR 2 HDR restores HDR rendering contrast and enhances light and shadow details. Also, it now takes only 1 second to start the game!
