Question: A 65-year-old woman with no significant past medical history presented to our emergency department immediately after drinking fish soup. She experienced an instantaneous retrosternal pain that propagated from the upper chest downward and persisted. The pain was aggravated by deep breathing and walking. She was unable to swallow any further food or liquid and was transported to our hospital by ambulance. Initial evaluation by the Otorhinolaryngology service revealed no abnormalities in the oropharynx or hypopharynx.
