Review: Sherpa Adventure Gear Shirt

1) Sherpa Adventure Gear Shirts are made in Nepal, with thoughtful fabrics

“Made in Nepal” means far more here than a label stitched into a collar. Sherpa began in Nepal, and the brand has kept its production ties there. Many styles are made in factories by skilled local teams through its long-standing partner, Khangri Sourcing, and some hats are hand-knitted by artisan cooperatives. Producing in Nepal means paid work for everyone involved. The fabrics are chosen with care too, from soft merino wool and breathable Tencel™ to organic cotton and recycled polyester. I flipped over the label on my printed shirt to see this and I love the idea of supporting local communities in Nepal when you pull this on – in my case – the first time was to my work who completely admired the designs. It’s one thing to read about skilled makers. It’s another to wear their work!

2) Every Sherpa Adventure Gear item sends a kid to school

This is the bit that got me. Through its partnership with Room to Read, Sherpa makes a contribution for every item purchased, calculated to fund the equivalent of one day of school for a child in Nepal. Room to Read works with local communities and education systems on literacy and life-skills programmes. So when I received my printed shirt, I wasn’t just treating myself. I was helping fund a day of school for a child in Nepal too. At the time of writing, the website’s counter shows over 1.8 million school days donated, which makes my shirt the most meaningful thing I own with a print on it!

3) Sherpa Adventure Gear is not your average outdoor brand

Sherpa was founded in May 2003 by Tashi Sherpa as a living memorial to the unsung heroes of Mount Everest, honouring the courage, skill and humility of the Sherpa people who’ve made countless Himalayan journeys possible. That heritage runs through everything, from the distinctive colours and patterns to the stories behind each product. My printed shirt is a perfect exampl, showing the rich history of Nepal with elephants, pagodas, different types of trees, and fauna. My favourite thing ion the shirt has to be the mountains of the Himalayas.

I plan to wear this on special occasions for birthdays and official gatherings giving this a good conversation starter when you meet new people but also to have the knowledge that you are supporting good sustainable craftsmanship too.

Their motto is “adventure with purpose”, and as a travel blogger who’s never stopped exploring since 2011, that’s a philosophy I can get behind!

This isn’t just another shirt with a logo slapped on it. It’s kit with a point of view.
