New truck restrictions in Dubai start this October

The new Dubai truck restrictions cover major roads, residential areas and peak travel times

There’s a change coming to Dubai’s roads this week. From October 1, new Dubai truck restrictions will apply across parts of the emirate, with the rules changing depending on where – and when – trucks are travelling.

Here’s the breakdown.

Which Dubai roads have a 24-hour restriction?

Some roads and locations will have truck restrictions around the clock. These include Al Qudra Street, Al Meydan Street, all crossings and the Airport Tunnel. Emirates Road, however, is exempt from the new decision.

Other roads have set hours

Sheikh Zayed Road and Beirut Street will have a 16-hour daily restriction, running from 6am to 10pm. The same applies within residential areas including Al Mizhar, Muhaisnah and Oud Al Muteena. Elsewhere, Dubai truck restrictions will focus specifically on the busiest parts of the day. On urban roads including Airport Street, Oman Street and Damascus Street, trucks will be restricted from 6.30am to 8.30am, 1pm to 3pm and 5.30pm to 8pm.

Why are the rules changing?

RTA says the move is designed to help ease congestion on key roads, improve traffic flow and reduce journey times across Dubai. Truck drivers and transport companies are being asked to plan routes around the restrictions, use permitted alternative roads or head to designated truck rest stops during restricted hours. For essential journeys that need to take place during restricted times, companies can apply to RTA for a Mobility Permit for Heavy Vehicles in Banned Times and Roads through its Right-of-Way Department. The new Dubai truck restrictions come into effect on Thursday, October 1.
