Pure Ceramic Cookware: Why I Switched (Xtrema Review)

I cook for my family every single day, so I think a lot about what goes into our food. But for years I never thought about what our food was cooking in and got rid of non-stick coatings and started only using non-toxic cookware like pure ceramic cookware. Here’s a brand worth sharing.

This post is in partnership with Xtrema as I only recieved the pans to try them. All opinions are my own.

Then I started reading about nonstick coatings, PFAS, and so-called “forever chemicals,” and I couldn’t unsee it. I went looking for non-toxic cookware I could feel good about, and that search recently led me to Xtrema. I now cook with their Premier Home Chef Set nearly every day. Here’s what I learned and why I’m so happy with it. BTW, the sleek design is stunning!

What Does “Non-Toxic Cookware” Actually Mean?

“Non-toxic” is printed on a lot of packaging, but it isn’t a regulated term, so it can mean very different things. When I say non-toxic cookware, I mean cookware that:

  • Has no PFAS or PFOA (the “forever chemicals” that break down very slowly in the environment and in our bodies)
  • Has no nonstick coating that can scratch, flake, or wear away
  • Has no metal core that could leach into your food
  • Is made from simple, natural materials

That last point matters more than most people realize, and it’s where the next section comes in.

Pure Ceramic Cookware vs. Ceramic-Coated: They’re Not the Same Thing

This was my biggest “aha” moment. There are two very different products sold as “ceramic cookware”:

Ceramic-coated cookware is a metal pan (usually aluminum or cast iron) with a thin ceramic-style layer sprayed on top. It’s often slick and pretty at first, but the coating wears down over time, and once it does, you’re cooking on the metal underneath.

Pure ceramic cookware is ceramic all the way through. There’s no coating to wear off and nothing hiding underneath. It’s the difference between a painted surface and solid material.

Xtrema is the second kind. According to the brand, their process fuses fine porcelain with raw clay and fires it at over two thousand degrees, and you’ll never find Teflon, PFOA, PFAS, non-stick coatings, or a metal core. It’s simply pure ceramic, through and through.

Why I Chose Xtrema

A few things won me over:

  • It’s family owned. I love supporting a small, family-run company with a real story behind it.
  • It’s built to last. Pure ceramic isn’t a pan you replace every couple of years. Xtrema backs it with a 10-year limited warranty and a 30-day trial period, so you can try it in your own kitchen without pressure.
  • It’s beautiful. I’ll say it: the polished, elevated look matters to me. This cookware looks so good on the stove and the table that I’m happy to serve straight from the pot.

My Premier Home Chef Set: What I Love

The Premier Home Chef Set gave me a complete kitchen upgrade in one shot! Shes beautiful! It includes Versa pans and pots in several sizes:
10-inch Versa Pan
9.5-inch Fry Pan
5.5-quart Versa Pot
2.5-quart Versa Pot
1.5-quart Versa Pot
4-piece Tan Pot Holders
Organic Cotton Handle Protector

One thing I love is how versatile they are. The brand says these pieces can go on the BBQ grill, over a fire, in the microwave or in the dishwasher, so I’m not juggling different pots for different jobs.

  • Favorite piece: the frying pan. I use it the most! Tip, let the pan get very hot, turn the heat down, then add oil. This prevents any sticking for efforless cooking.
  • Best meal I’ve made in it: Pan fryed brussels sprouts, ground meat bowls, pancakes, and scrambled eggs (we all know eggs stick like crazy!).
  • Cleanup: Washes up so easily!

What Cooking With Pure Ceramic Is Really Like (The Honest Part)

I don’t love gushing without being real, so here’s what to know before you switch:

  • It’s a different feel from nonstick. Pure ceramic isn’t a Teflon-style slick surface, so a little oil or butter helps, and low-to-medium heat is your friend.
  • It holds heat beautifully. Ceramic is known for excellent heat retention, which makes it wonderful for soups, stews, and low-and-slow cooking.
  • Treat it with care. Avoid sudden extreme temperature swings (like putting a hot pan under cold water), and follow Xtrema’s care guide.
