Book Description:
In seven days, Jet Mason will be dead . . .
Jet has always been restless, never quite finishing anything. Later, she tells herself. She’s got time.
Until one night, she is violently attacked.
Doctors tell her she’s received a catastrophic brain injury. Inside a week, she’ll be dead.
Suddenly, Jet has run out of time – and this is her last chance to see something through.
With her condition deteriorating, and her childhood friend Billy the only one in her small town she trusts, Jet starts to ask questions. Someone tried to kill her. Someone that she knew.
Jet Mason has just seven days to solve her own murder
My Thoughts:
You sense a race against time with this novel as Jet only has seven days left to live and in that time, she wants to catch the person who has technically killed her. There doesn’t appear to be anyone who would want her dead which makes it even more trickier. She enlists her childhood best friend Billy’s help and the two of them make some shocking discoveries.
Whilst I was also eager to catch the killer, there was also the sense of dread at what was to come to Jet. Jet is a likeable character which made it harder. There is some dark humour which lightens the story up somewhat but it also made me feel melancholy. Jet is strong willed yet there is definitely a vulnerability about her. As the week goes on, she finds herself struggling more and having to lean on Billy to help her. It certainly tugged on my emotions.
It’s hard to say too much about their investigation but they soon start making discoveries with some shocking outcomes. The finger points to quite a few characters and I was constantly changing my mind. It wasn’t until just before the killer is revealed that I worked it out but I hadn’t seen it coming what so ever until that point. Even then, it didn’t excuse some of the other characters actions and it left me in turmoil as to what I would have liked the outcome to be. Of course, that all lies in the hands of the author and she did a good job as it wasn’t quite what I had in mind but if felt like the right one.
Not Quite Dead Yet totally consumed me. I won’t lie, I kept hoping that some miracle would happen or a mistake had been made and by the end of the week, Jet would be ok. It made it a bitter sweet read. The dark humour though stops it from being too much of a somber read and the race against time in finding the killer adds to the thrill factor. There are lots of red herrings and plenty of twists and I couldn’t put it down until the truth was revealed. The ending had me go through a mix of emotions and I found myself laughing and crying. A thriller that hits hard!
