Strawberries cherries and an angel’s kiss in spring
My summer wine is really made from all these things
Take off your silver spurs and help me pass the time
And I will give to you summer wine
Ohhh-oh, summer wine ~ Nancy Sinatra
It’s May, folks. MAY!
(Chorus in your head: Thank God! How is that possible? I can’t believe it! What the #!&*@?)
The first four discombobulated, chaotic, unhinged, higgledy-piggledy months of this year are over—volatile and unimaginable, yet mercifully fleeting by.
Come up for air now. Shake it off.
It’s May …and a time for every purpose under heaven. Named after the Roman Goddess of fertility, Maia, May is the month of rebirth and celebration. Friday was May Day, Tuesday is Cinco De Mayo, Sunday is Mother’s Day. And that’s just in the first ten days!
Celebrations still to come in May include (pay attention oenophiles) National Moscato Day, International Sauvignon Blanc Day, International Chardonnay Day, the 50th Anniversary of the Judgment of Paris.
Heck, let’s just roll out the biggie right now… May 25, National Wine Day!
For wine lovers, successful wine shops, and wine-centric restaurants, the onset of May is a definitive call to action. One of only three times a year when reserving wine for the upcoming season truly makes sense. So yes, the time is nigh to stockpile for May, June, July and August.
Summertime, and the livin’ is easy
Fish are jumpin’ and the cotton is high
Oh, your daddy’s rich and your ma is good lookin’
So hush, little baby, don’t you cry ~ (Gershwin, et al., 1934)
The idyll is obvious. Forget—for just a moment—the self-destructive nature of our species and how unbalanced our world feels. Go back to yesteryear when summertime was all about the outdoors, adventure and challenge, followed by long hot days at the beach, naps in the hammock, late dinners of grilled seafood, pasta and barbecue on the back patio, music in the bandshell, and an endless celebration of life’s seminal moments, pleasures and achievements. A bucolic nostalgia perhaps, but reimagined and accompanied today by a new roster of light, fresh, fruit-driven, low-alcohol white wines of place and pedigree, Rosés that redefine the category and expand expectations (not to mention still pair really well with that hammock), and mid-body foodie reds that cover the full spectrum of modernist summer cuisine.
And always, always, celebration.
Figuratively speaking, right now we are staring at 120 days of sunshine and nary a snowflake in sight—cause for rampant celebration in its own right! But philosophically speaking, and of far greater meaning, July 4, 2026 marks one of the most significant historical milestones in the timeline of American Democracy. A red-letter day honoring 250 years of tenuous but tenacious adherence to American independence, freedom, and our nation’s founding principles. A critical celebration of individual liberty.
With all of the above in mind, here’s what I’m serving up right now—A Summer Celebration Mixed Case Special of these three wines for 15% discount PLUS FREE SHIPPING! (which could save you as much as $150 or more depending where you live). Includes four bottles each of the following wines:
2025 Daniel’s Pride Albariño Think of sunshine in a glass! This wine was recently awarded 92 points and a Gold Medal at the 2026 Los Angeles Invitational Wine & Spirits Challenge. Redefining what we now consider essential white wine, Albariño has successfully made the leap from its homeland along the Atlantic coasts of northwestern Spain and northern Portugal to similar terroir in the Sierra Foothills AVA of northern California. Our Albariño is very light and dry, extremely refreshing at only 11% alcohol, and delicately defined by flavors of peach and apricot, notes of melon, lime, and grapefruit, hints of maritime-influenced minerality, and zippy acidity. It’s an ideal wine—for anytime, anywhere.
2024 Liberty Zinfandel is a wine for the ages and the recipient of a Gold Medal at the 2026 Texas International Wine Competition. Featuring a proudly patriotic label as a weathered but resilient reminder of our nation’s long experiment in Democracy, the only wine worthy of commemorating such a legacy is one handcrafted from America’s very own heritage grape—old vine Zinfandel from Sonoma. It is treasured as a mid-bodied, complex, fruit-forward red wine known for its jammy dark berry flavors and spicy notes of black pepper, all ending in a smooth, long finish. Be sure to reserve a few bottles for July 4th and celebrate America’s 250th birthday. Cheers to liberty and resilience!
2025 Rosé of Pinot Noir A French saignée-style Rosé made from famous Russian River Pinot Noir, this summer sipper captured 95 points and a Double-Gold medal at the 2026 Los Angeles Invitational Wine & Spirits Challenge. Sporting a decadent pastel rose painting on the label of a salmon-pink bottle of dreams, we are proud to introduce our latest and greatest Provence-inspired Rosé. Pleasingly dry—not sweet, and endlessly refreshing with bright acidity, subtle floral notes, and unique undertones of watermelon and ripe strawberry, this delicious low alcohol vin gris goes as well with salads and grilled seafood as it does with swimming pools and sandy beaches! Grab your share now as it will soon go the way of all dreams.
