Psychotropic Wonderland Reviews – September 7–October 3, 2026 – Avant Music News

A strong batch of recent reviews at Psychotropic Wonderland covers experimental rock, drone, ambient, electroacoustic music, and contemporary composition.

Curbside Lambsear – Put Rings On All My Fingers To Weigh Down My Hands (Scenic Route) — Pared-down rock deconstruction combining viola, synths, percussion, sound collage, noise, and post-punk structures.

Huerta Ensamble – S∞S (Elevator Bath) — Concepción and Daniela Huerta build two long-form pieces from improvisation, dark drones, processed strings, electronics, and dense sound design.

Maxime Denuc – Club Imperiale (light-years) — Denuc uses a custom Max/MSP sequencer to control pipe organ, connecting baroque sonorities, ambient music, and the harmonic language of early-1990s trance.

Andrew Chalk – Mystical Obscurant (Students of Decay) — Quiet guitar, keyboard, environmental sound, and loop-based pieces built around slowly evolving melodies and drones.

Carmen Villain – Memoria (Smalltown Supersound) — A highly abstract form of spectral dub combining ambient textures, industrial pulses, flutes, electronics, and radically reduced rhythms.

Etelin – The Chair and the Faucet (Pentiments) — Alex Cobb works almost entirely with Serge modular synthesizer on slowly shifting minimal drones, oscillations, feedback, and overtones.

Dean McPhee – Northern Earth (Bass Ritual) — McPhee expands his real-time guitar minimalism with bass and percussion, drawing on dub, desert blues, psychedelia, and slow-moving improvisation.

Windy & Carl Meet Optigan Conservatory (Kranky) — Drone-based improvisations combine Windy & Carl’s layered guitars with synthesizer, harmonium, Optigan textures, and later overdubs.

Klara Lewis – Opening (Editions Mego) — Lewis manipulates orchestral samples, loops, field recordings, noise, and distortion into short electronic and electroacoustic pieces.

Sarah Davachi – The Will of Tongues (Late Music) — A large-scale collection spanning solo pipe organ, choral writing, microtonal ensembles, and chamber music, with an emphasis on tuning, timbre, duration, and harmonic structure.
