Snack, then let their imaginations loose

More imagination. Less complication.

Once everyone has refueled, the afternoon can shift out of school mode and into kid mode. Add a simple invitation next to their Figgy: build a reading cave, open a pretend café, set up an obstacle course, or design the tallest fort possible. A nourishing snack plus a little screen-free freedom might be the reset everyone needs. Made in the USA, GREENGUARD Gold and CertiPUR-US certified, 10-year Playproof Warranty, and the covers go in the wash.

What are healthy after-school snacks for kids?

Pair a fruit, vegetable or whole grain with a source of protein or fat: apple slices with peanut butter, Greek yogurt with berries, cheese with crackers and grapes, cucumbers with hummus, or a homemade muffin with a glass of milk. Two or three recognizable ingredients is plenty.

How big should an after-school snack be?

Snack-sized, not meal-sized. Enough to take the edge off hunger and get kids through to dinner. A small plate or a single-serving muffin plus fruit is a good guide; if dinner is more than two hours away, add a protein.

What snacks can I make ahead for the week?

Hard-boiled eggs, a batch of ABC muffins, no-bake energy bites, frozen yogurt bark and homemade granola all keep for several days or freeze well. Prep one, not five.

Which snacks are safe for toddlers?

Soft, cut-small foods: thinly sliced apple, grapes cut lengthwise, banana, avocado toast fingers, yogurt, scrambled or mashed egg. Skip whole nuts, big crunchy granola clusters and whole grapes, and serve nut or seed butter thinly spread rather than by the spoonful.
