At the end of each week, I usually collate a lightly edited collection of recent comments I’ve made on social media, which I think of as my public scratch pad. I tag on what books I may have finished reading. Knowing I’ll revisit my social media posts serves, I’ve found, as a positive and mellowing influence on my online activity. Some items show up on disquiet.com before this post, in which case I don’t repeat them. I mostly hang out on Mastodon (at post.lurk.org/@disquiet), and I’m also trying out a few others. And I generally take weekends off social media.
▰ When you’re auto-transcribing a rough draft of an interview and “Very strange indeed” comes out as “Quest spring and jundee,” which is very strange indeed
▰ Robert Plant is playing Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, a late announcement. He was incredible the last time he played the festival.
▰ It’s fun to make a good joke on Instagram (where I am @dsqt). Philip Glass posted this photo of a work-in-progress, and if you look closely you’ll see the actual music has been blurred out. I don’t think any comment of mine on Instagram has gotten more than a handful of likes previously.
▰ I know I live in a heavily and longtime Russian (among many other cultures) neighborhood but this is the first time in 30 years I’ve seen someone wearing a Dostoyevsky t-shirt.
(Someone humorously replied online: “Oh you like Dostoyevsky? Name five of their songs.”)
▰ No music at the barbershop today, but there was this nugget:
Customer: “What’s longer than three?”
Barber: “Four.”
▰ Animal control caught the apex kitty so it’s safe to end the week with a walk to the ocean.
