Recall Alert Involving Plantain Flour: Additional Information from GF Blends
GF Blends is recalling Truly AIP All Purpose Flour and Bread Mix and EAT G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R. Flat Bread Pizza Mix. These products contain plantain flour supplied by PMF Global. Gluten Free Watchdog reached out to GF Blends and spoke with the CEO. The following information was provided to us via a phone call with GF Blends:
The issue was discovered by GF Blends during post production testing. Products tested positive for gluten using a qualitative test. As a result, GF Global started testing each component of these products. The plantain flour tested positive. The flour was sent to an independent laboratory. It tested at approximately 6,000 ppm of gluten. Tests for wheat, barley, and rye were also done. The flour was positive for wheat and rye. PMF Global was notified about the issue by GF Blends.
Gluten Free Watchdog sent an email to PMF Global. We also tried to reach them by phone. Our main concern is that other manufacturers may be using plantain flour from this supplier in their labeled gluten-free products or products that appear to be free of gluten-containing ingredients. Based on images we found online, a gluten-free claim is included on back packaging. There is no apparent certification mark.
