how do I talk to an employee about her clothing?

Well, blast from the past. I am the OP of the letter. Shouldnt have made the mistake of reading the comments…

I talked about it in later update, but to elaborate:
This was a nonprofit working with deaf and mentally disabled people. We couldnt fire clients over stuff like sexually harrasing us (like what happened), coming to meetings drunk or using vulgarities/threatening us. One part was that we were the last resort social support and these people would end up on streets without any help, other part was that management was horrid. I still recall 8-10 hours video calls where we were shouted at and our abilities degraded. They cared about the metrics more than wellbeing of their employees.
The half naked client did much worse after I already left that job (former colleague told me) and management still forced the workers to deal with him, bcs they didnt want to lose numbers. *shrug*

As a middle manager, i was quite stuck, having almost no authority to change things but being expected to shoulder the responsibility. I got basically zero training and i was promoted mostly against my will/better judgement – no other person was available or willing.

There was also lot of speculation than i can possibly understands struggles with having big breasts and full body, but i was (at the time, now probably too) much more big chested and fatter than my worker. Funnily enough, that was the reason I thought she could dress differently, bcs i managed it. I think that even people with big breast have a line of not appropriate clothing – and despite me explaining it, she wore tank top with cutesy pics and extra short shorts to places like meeting at court. I once even got a phonecall from an official who didnt believe she was a support worker due to her dress… (that happened after the letter)

In the end, this worker was fired anyway – not due to dress code but bcs she wasnt doing her job yet submitting her hours.

I guess that sounds like a bunch of excuses, so I admit that I wasnt a good manager and didnt handle this thing particulary well either. I was first demoted and then let go. Demotion was a relief and smth i asked for, losing my job felt like a tragedy but it may have been a blessing. To be clear, the demotion wasnt due to this – or perhaps as a catalyst, since I realized I am not good at managing and I reallly dont want to do it.

I would also ask the commenters here to have more grace, especially with old past letters. Some of the comments are helfpul, but some range from mean to cruel. And well, reacting to outdated info.

I am currently back in school raising my qualification. Not sure if i will ever end up being a manager again, but i sure hope it will be in better circumstances and with more experience and support.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
