The American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) is proud to announce that the 2026 Distinguished Achievement Award in Basic Science is awarded to Klaus H. Kaestner, PhD, the Thomas and Evelyn Suor Butterworth Professor in Genetics and Associate Director of the Institute for Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. This award, the AGA’s highest honor for basic research, recognizes an individual whose career-long contributions have fundamentally shifted our understanding of the science and practice of gastroenterology and hepatology.
