We read with great academic enthusiasm the study conducted by Pei et al.1 This multicenter randomized controlled trial (RCT) offers strong evidence for the effectiveness of electroacupuncture (EA) in accelerating gastrointestinal function recovery after laparoscopic gastrectomy. By comparing EA with sham acupuncture (SA) and standard care alone, it fills a gap in the literature, especially addressing the lack of strict controls and generalizability in previous trials. The results highlight the potential of EA as a safe and effective adjuvant therapy for postoperative ileus (POI) and provide insights for optimizing perioperative care.
