The first game to utilise all memory of a system rather what was on the media (CD) and the first use of Modern OpenGL, truly a modern kickstarter game, funnily enough Halo on Xbox ran into a similar problem and was fixed the same wayb
You just copied the information that was in the Ars technica video about this subject and the PlayStation didn’t have a GPU so you didn’t even get the information right.
I miss the olden days when games were optimized instead of being 100GB downloads that could easily be compressed to 20. Like, Banjo-Kazooie was able to calculate sine and cosine functions using only one eighth of a curve and transforming it.
when Naughty Dog was presenting it at a developers' conference the crowd accused them of having access to top secret sony graphics libraries Mark Cerny's response was "they weren't powerful enough for our needs"
Today’s publishers don’t even have 1% of this talent. They’ve got all the resources they could ever want so they spend all their efforts dumbing down games and pushing propaganda.
Please like, comment and share the video if you liked it! I’m new to making videos and it helps a ton

hearing/seeing a game with only 2 mb ram today is crazy
Me:😢
but "games are harder to make now than they were back then"…

Watch the Ars Technica interview/video on it, they straight up got Sony to help with overwrite Sony C libraries just for extra memory.
Andy Gavin was a technical genius
Amazing developer just look at Jak and Dexter open world with no loading screens
No devs are doing this anymore. Now rely on AI or UE5 trash.

Restrictions breeds innovation and gave us one of the best platformers of that time.
Don't forget that they had gotten a developer Playstation system to do this… if i remember correctly.
I legit cannot wrap my head around the fact that all my childhood memories playing Spyro the Dragon ran on two fucking megabytes of memory…
Big up to Naughty dog for making a legendary game
The reason is that games back then MOSTLY utilized custom engines 😅
This is exactly why AI can never replace real programmers. Strokes of genius are a human quality.
still cant believe the makers of THE LAST OF US… made crash bandicoot 😭🙏
Crazy how we’ve gone from hacking the console for technical innovation to unstable, force-upscaled, unoptimized 30 fps games
This is why games aren’t as good anymore developers aren’t willing to think outside the box
naught dog was the goat of the ps1.
so that's why crash's animations are so choppy in crash 1!
And one of them officially made PS4/5
i enjoy the Nights: Journey of Dreams music 😊
And then sony japan shut down japan studio, the one who did half the work for all their iconic ps2 games, just so some executive can rake in a bonus.
Indies are more than 2MB now lol
Is this NiGHTS music?
The sheer ingenuity is so awesome. Limitation creates innovation. Something that’s kind of missing these days

And this short, I only have one question why is crash not the permanent face of PlayStation?
Sony's documentation and library was known to be horse shit in the past
OG temple run!
Ahh, back when game developers actually cares about the games they're making instead of pushing out the same game every year with a different title
0:00 the intro is so frickin goofy
Someone's watched Andy Gavin's ArsTechnica interview
Hearing about all these work arounds developers had to do back in the day make current day development look like easy mode.
