Earlier this month Cryptozoic Entertainment launched a new Kickstarter campaign for their newest standalone DC Deck-Building Game based on the Green Lantern Corps which was funded in under 15 minutes. Currently over $1 million has been pledged in the campaign, which will see backers received their items around July of 2027. Before we dig into the game, here’s the trailer Cryptozoic launched the campaign with.
After comics, board gaming is my number one hobby, so when both worlds collide I obviously sit up and take notice. As a long time player of the DC Deck-Building game I’m really intrigued by how the design team is bringing the Green Lantern Corps to the game by incorporating recent innovations like transforming cards and linking that effect to your power ring being charged (think of John Stewart transforming into an Indigo Tribe member like he did during the “War of the Green Lanterns” arc, or a basic “punch” card becoming a stronger “hard light construct” card). The new game also brings something new to the table by way of dual use cards. The example below shows a Manhunter, which fans might remember Hal Jordan using to recharge his power ring, being able to be dealt with as a villain, becoming equipment once the card has been added to a player’s deck.

In addition to the game itself, Cryptozoic is creating a couple of new additions that will appeal to Green Lantern fans. First is the Death and Return of Superman Crossover pack, which will allow players to experience that storyline in a whole new way. This, of course, connects to Green Lantern lore via the destruction of Coast City.
The second item is a Crisis Pack based on “The War of Light”. The DC Deck-Building Game is at its heart a competition between superheroes to build the best deck by defeating villains and adding cards to their starter decks. The Crisis Packs turns the game into a fully cooperative experience where the heroes work together to defeat a series of events and Super Villains. In “The War of Light” players will start out as as new recruits, channeling the emotional spectrum to save the universe.

The folks at Cryptozoic are DC fans, so you can expect that they’ve done their research and included long time fan favorite characters in the game as well as more recent additions. In perusing the campaign page you can see Mogo, Kilowog and Arisa cards, but also Aya, Razer and Jadestone. Cryptozoic is also pulling out the stops when it comes to supporting products as well, offering things like a deck box, several player mat options….and even a set of power rings that light up. All of their back content is available as well, allowing people to buy products offered in the past, including the Green Lantern vs. Sinestro game and the recently announced reprint of the long sought after Batman Ninja Crossover Pack.

The Kickstarter campaign ends at 3PM on September 24, 2026. The Blog of Oa teamed up with Cryptozoic back in 2018 to promote their Rivals: Green Lantern vs. Sinestro game, and two members of the team behind the new game will be joining us for our next episode of The Podcast of Oa, releasing on September 14th.
