My Top 10 Albums From Every Year I Have Been Alive ..Year 24 1989 – In the Mind of a Bordello

1989 once again a wonderful year for albums ,one that i had great difficulty placing the top ten i was very much considering doing a one off top 40 but thought better of it , i admit i got lost down the rabbit hole of 1989 and really enjoyed relistening to all these great albums , I discovered just how much i love the Vaselines Dum Dum album a record i have owned for 35 years and probably only played it a couple of times and replaying it all these years later had me wondering why and what a truly great album .  The top three i new would be my top three as they are three of my favourite all-time albums and hold great memories and have been a great influence on my songwriting especially my Number one Julian Copes quite off-centre Psych Folk Masterpiece which just edged out another guitar pop masterpiece Edwyn Collins Hope And Despair a lp that fills me with beautiful nostalgic memories and he was quite a wonderful live performer at this time ,he should have been a star .Lou Reed ‘s New York is Lou Reed being Lou reed to a quite spectacular level and one day i want to record a album about my hometown called St Helens and will be Brian Bordello being Brian Bordello at a spectacular level . Another surprise was how much i loved Elvis Costello’s Spike album i was not expecting it to make my top ten as much as i love Elvis Costello i have always dismissed it as being a bit patchy ,but actually it is filled with great tracks and wonderful lyrics ,i think it may be a little over produced but the strength of the songwriting overcomes that hurdle. Roy Orbison’s Mystery Girl was another that took me by surprise another lp i have owned since it was released and not really played much and is a strange and wonderful pop album filled with great songs. And it just edged out The Lilac Time’s Paradise Circus and The field Mice album Snowball out of the top ten .Primal Scream made it into my top 5 with my favourite Primal Scream album ,i saw them in a small club in Liverpool on this tour and they where quite brilliant as where the Stone Roses  who i also saw in a small local arts venue in sunny St Helens that year .The Cure and their joyful skip through the land of happy making it to number 8 which actually is Dan Bordello’s favourite ever album .
