Your Age Is Information, Not Instruction – A Spring Reset for Living Life Your Way – Women Living Well After 50

Pro-aging.
Anti-aging.
Age-positive.
Age-defying.
Healthy aging.

There are so many labels and discussion especially on Social media around getting older that sometimes I think we need to stop talking about aging altogether. I was discussing this with my physiotherapist yesterday during my strength workout. How we don’t really know what we are capable of and tend to limit ourselves because we are a certain number in life. I’ve been guilty of using these terms too but lately I’ve been reassessing how I feel when I see these labels and I keep coming back to this question:

What if we simply enjoyed our lives? – Now there’s a thought

At 69, I know I’m getting older. I’m not trying to pretend otherwise. I want to stay strong. I want to move well. I want to look after my health and my skin. I want to keep learning, travelling, laughing, exploring and doing the things that make me happy.

But I’m not interested in fighting my age. I’m interested in living my life and trying to make the most of every day.

Your age is information, not instruction.

I think this is a great way to live your life.

My age tells me where I am in my life. It reminds me that my body may need a little more care, recovery may be important, and looking after my strength, mobility and health matters.

But my age doesn’t tell me what I can or can’t do.

It doesn’t tell me what to wear.

It doesn’t tell me what I should be interested in.

It doesn’t tell me when I should stop trying new things.

And it certainly doesn’t define who I am.

Looking after ourselves isn’t anti-aging

I strength train because I want to stay strong and independent.

I run because I enjoy the feeling of moving my body.

I eat nourishing food because I want energy.

I look after my skin because I enjoy that little ritual of self-care.

None of this is about trying to be younger.

It’s about valuing the life I’m living now.

That’s the shift I want to make this spring. Putting less focus on how we’re supposed to age and more focus on how we want to live.

Maybe that’s what Life in Full Bloom is really about. Not looking or pretending we’re younger or following somebody else’s formula for what a woman our age should be doing.

BUT just embracing who we are, taking care of ourselves and making room for the things that bring us joy.

Because we don’t get these years back.

So let’s use them.

Wear the outfit,

Take the trip.

Try something new.

Spend time with people who make you laugh.

Move your body.

Rest when you need to.

Say yes to the things that excite you.

And say no to the things that no longer fit.

Your Spring Reset

This season, I’m choosing less labels and more living.

I’m reminding myself that my age is information, not instruction and that’s all the permission we need.

To live well.
To live authentically.
To live joyfully.
To live life in full bloom.

So, what does “living life your way” look like for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. After all,

your age is information, not instruction.

Until next time….
