NORTHAMPTON — Cutchins Programs for Children & Families has announced the recipients of its inaugural Community Superhero Awards, which honor individuals and organizations whose everyday actions make their communities stronger, kinder, and more hopeful.
The 2026 Community Superhero Award recipients are Heather Benedetti of Belchertown Public Schools, Katie McLaughlin of the Greater Northampton Chamber of Commerce, and youth dance team Momentum Performance Company of Art in Motion in Easthampton. The awards were set to be presented during Cutchins’ 10th annual Superhero Run & Family Fall Festival on Sunday, Oct. 4.
The event emphasizes the message that “Every Child Deserves a Superhero,” reflecting research that one committed adult can make a positive difference in a child’s life. It also highlights Hope in Action, recognizing that real-life superheroes are those in local communities who consistently support others.
“We wanted to take the superhero theme beyond capes and costumes and recognize what being a superhero really looks like,” said Gina Krosoczka, director of Development at Cutchins Programs for Children & Families. “For children especially, knowing there are adults, peers, and organizations in their community who care about them, believe in them, and show up for them matters. It is time to celebrate the work and kindness of everyday people. Cutchins is honored to bring their superpowers to light.”
Benedetti was selected for her exceptional ability to recognize, encourage, and believe in children. She is known for understanding her students, recognizing kindness, celebrating effort, and helping children who doubt themselves realize their ideas matter and that they are capable. Her superpower is seeing potential in children before they see it in themselves.
McLaughlin was selected for her remarkable ability to bring people together and build community. She remembers individuals, their stories, and what matters to them, creating spaces where people feel welcomed, valued, and connected. Her superpower is making a large community feel connected and stronger, one relationship at a time.
Momentum Performance Company was selected for demonstrating to young people that their talents can make a difference beyond the stage. Through performances, fundraisers, and partnerships with organizations throughout the region, Momentum’s dancers consistently use their creativity to raise awareness, support important causes, and show up for their community. Their superpower is teaching young people that sharing their talents can create meaningful change.
