PUBG: Black Budget Development Pulled by Krafton

Things are shaking up with publisher Krafton as they’ve just pulled the plug on PUBG: Black Budget. Development has come to a halt following two closed alpha tests, which took place in December 2025, and most recently in June 2026.

Black Budget was being billed as a first-person extraction shooter that utilized the PUBG universe. Players were set up with typical loadouts with goals to extract specific loot. The unique hook was that the world was set in a time loop and the game featured a PvPvE-like structure that involved 45 players in three-player squads during a match.

Despite the two alpha tests taking place, Krafton said that those sessions would be used to refine the game ahead of its full launch. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like that worked out, as the game is now cancelled.

Black Budget was in development at PUBG Studios Amsterdam, announced in 2025 as an effort to expand the franchise. According to a Krafton official on the cancellation, “PUBG Studios places the player experience at the center of all decisions, and we made this decision in accordance with that principle.”

That said, they do plan on introducing new gameplay experiences in the future, so it remains to be seen what they come up with in its place.
