Looper – Interior-Day – Ambientblog

LOOPER – INTERIOR – DAY

In 1998, Belle and Sebastian bassist Stuart David and his wife Karn David founded the band Looper. On their previous albums (three of these released on Mute) they presented instrumental music, based on loops (of course) and the manipulation of samples.

According to Discogs, Looper is still a band, also featuring Evil Bob and Ronnie Black, but the music on Interior-Day does not sound like a band in the traditional sense. So I assume that for this album, Looper is the Karn husband-and-wife duo.

Interior – Day presents eleven tracks, seven of which were created in the last two years and were previously available as (Bandcamp-only) single downloads. Additionally, there are four new tracks included.
The music is strictly electronic and still loop-based, ‘even if the loops are now asynchronous rather than locked to the grid. And the manipulation of samples still plays a major role’.

I must admit I am not familiar with their previous work (yet), but in their own words ‘the foregrounding of the quiet and small, the simple and the overlooked, might find their fullest expression so far on Interior – Day’.

The the music is as bright and light-hearted as the sunlit-filled interior of the cover. No ‘dark ambient’ here! Positive, enjoyable, and affirmative music! which is very welcome in these dark times, when it’s all too easy to lose oneself.

Interior – Day is available as a CDR in a four-page card wallet in a compostable wrapper. And of course also as a digital download.
