Fall Writing Frenzy 2026 Is Back!

Hello world!!
It’s baaaack! 🎉
The eighth annual Fall Writing Frenzy is coming your way, and I’m thrilled to be co-hosting this FREE kidlit writing contest once again with the fabulous Kaitlyn Sanchez!
If you’ve never participated before, here’s the deal: we’ll give you a collection of inspirational images, and you choose one to spark a piece of writing. It can be a poem, story, mood piece, or anything else that comes to mind. Funny, spooky, heartfelt, strange, lyrical—we want to see where your imagination takes you!
This year, we’ve selected images inspired by Halloween, Fall, Diwali, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, and the Mid-Autumn Festival. 🍁🎃🪔🌙
And yes, there are awesome critique prizes from generous members of the kidlit community! The donors will be announced shortly. But honestly, one of the best things about Fall Writing Frenzy is the community. You’ll discover new writers, read their work, leave some love, and hopefully make new connections along the way.
✨ THE BASICS
The contest is FREE and open to un-agented kidlit writers, from board books through young adult.
You’ll have 200 words or less to respond to your chosen image, and submissions will be open October 1–3, 2026.
There’s one entry per person, so start thinking about which image speaks to you!
Be sure to read the complete rules before entering, and don’t forget to use our official hashtag:
#FallWritingFrenzy

So sharpen those pencils, wake up those sleepy writing muscles, and get ready to have some fun.
We can’t wait to see what you create!
🍂 Happy writing, and let the frenzy begin! 🍂
Love & Light,
Lydia
