The strangeness and fuck uppery of the current music scene is fun to behold as i start the search for a record label to release the split album “Half Man Half Kitten” The Bordellos with Dee Claw with the Neon Kittens for the tracks the Bordellos recorded with Dee Claw there are eight tracks and were recorded over a period of 10 years and 8 quite brilliant tracks by the Neon Kittens and together this split album is quite wonderful .Both bands release music on the wonderful Metal Postcard Records on a regular basis but we are wanting a physical release and Metal Postcard no longer release the music as a physical product , so we are on the hunt for a new home for this excellent album. I have tried a few labels who are booked up release schedule wise .some for the next two years . Others find the album too alternative/experimental for their label ,some saying so but actually saying how good the album is but would have trouble selling it in this current climate and lets be honest the Bordellos are never an easy sell and the expense of releasing physical releases are becoming quite crippling and are needing to recoup the costs of the releases to keep going, so might be a risk . Although myself i think the album is actually very commercial a album filled with pop songs and strangeness, guitar pop does not have to sound like Big Star .The Byrds ,Squeeze, Oasis or the early Beatles to be commercial it can have songs filled with sex ,dark humour and melodies that are so unusually breezy you could fly a kite with but some are put off with the off kilter post punk charm of some of the tracks . I am sure there is a label out there that will be the perfect match and have no trouble selling it but it is just finding one . One that still releases physical artefacts of pop. Post punk /experimental splendour . So any labels out there who fancy the excitement of releasing this wonderful album or anyone knowing of a label who would be interested in releasing it on Vinyl, CD or Cassette or all three and we could pretend it was the 80’s again .
