An easy homemade snack for kids, strawberry oat bars packed with oats and seeds, nut free and so simple to make
Easy to make, all in one bowl and just six simple ingredients; these Strawberry Oat Bars are a brilliant snack to make for kids.
Great for batch baking and freezing, they’re nut free so suitable for school lunchboxes too.
Packed with oats and seeds, they are high in fibre and brilliant for helping to fill kids up.
How To Make These Oat Bars
The full recipe with all the ingredients and measurements are in the recipe card towards the bottom of this blog post but I’ve also included some step by step photos here which you might find helpful.
Mix together melted butter, honey, oats, seeds and sugar in a large bowl.
Slice the frozen strawberries and mix these in.
Transfer the mixture to a lined dish and press down with the back of a spoon.
Bake for 23 minutes.
COOLING & CUTTING
Once cooked, allow to cool in the dish for about 10 minutes. Then transfer the dish to the fridge or freeze for about 30 minutes. This step is really important to ensure that the bars firm up.
Then cut into 16 squares.
STORING
These oat bars can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
They can also been frozen for up to 2 months. Defrost at room temperature in 1 hour.
sUBSTITUTIONS
Butter – This can be substituted for a dairy free spread
Oats – Use certified gluten free oats if you need these oat bars to be gluten free
Fruit – You can swap the strawberries for raspberries or blueberries. I used frozen fruit as they are cheaper but you can use fresh berries too.
Seeds – I use packs of mixed seeds that you can buy in the supermarket. They contain a mix of sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds and flax seeds. You can use these packs of mixed seeds or any of the individual seeds.
SEEDS & YOUNG CHILDREN
Whole seeds can be a choking hazard for children under 5 years so either cut them up very small or leave them out completely.
