The only section that is not clear to me in the construction of the bezel is how to ensure that the bezel insert is always perfectly aligned with the dial markers as the insert is screwed into place. It is possible that the bezel insert plate is screwed into place before the ceramic insert is fixed to it, this would allow the insert to be correctly positioned and it would return to the same position if reattached with the same force. It is also possible that the insert plate is held in place with a small amount of thread lock when the insert is fitted each time to ensure correct alignment. I did ask the staff about the bezel construction during the GS9 event but they were unable to provide any information, stating that this was a company “secret”.
As the click of the bezel is no longer vertical it feels slightly different but this new bezel design on the Ushio 300 divers feels great in the hand with a positive action and stable rotation. The design allows for tight tolerances between the surfaces and this should improve the ability to minimize any potential debris from entering the mechanism. The structure also allows for easier cleaning that should be advantageous for long term reliability.
