By way of background: This is a southern Rhone blend with a good following. Some folks have noted a fizziness in some bottles from this vintage.
Inspired by this wine: Running through the backyards and even the junkyards towards home, where we’re rewarded with some of the sweetest, juiciest watermelon possible.
Specs: This wine is finished at 14.5% alcohol and first sampled six years from vintage date, in July, 2025. The bottle has been opened and partially emptied for a couple of days, under vacuum.
In the glass: Deep, rusty black cherry, almost black, and opaque from about a quarter inch of the edge.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, an unusual and somewhat beckoning mix of deep red fruits, old tires, ripe meats.
On the palate: A slightly spritzy, but very deep and luscious ripe black cherry open, which widens into a perky ripe blueberry wash across your palate. It finally settles to a languorous close, with tannins tucking into your cheeks and fruit holding fast for ages.
In summary: Overall, just touches four stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making this a Best Value!
Following the black licorice test: Sweetens the entry point a bit, and rounds and flattens the entire balance of the taste. Different than the original, but just as nice.
