‘The five networks that have suspended their pool coverage of President Trump — ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, and NBC — just issued a joint statement: “The public has a vital interest in receiving accurate, independent information about its government. No administration should restrict a news organization because it objects to its reporting.”’
Hard for me to assess at this moment what effect, if any, this development will have regarding coverage of news related to the laws governing the electoral process. An earlier update stated: “The president’s activities on Monday are still expected to be covered by print, radio and wire journalists, along with still photographers.“
And the three affected outlets are suing to regain White House access. So the status quo ante may be resumed. Still, this is a major development in the midst of a midterm campaign that the President has said should be treated as if he were on the ballot.
