<\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\nCV & JAB \u2013 KLIMA (CV & JAB <\/em><\/strong>is the shortcode for the duo Christina Vantzou<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>and John Also Bennett<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. Klima<\/em><\/strong> is their third album together, preceded by Zin Taylor\u2019s Thoughts Of A Dot As It Travels A Surface<\/a><\/em> (2018) and Landscape Architecture <\/em>(2020). In 2022, the duo expanded to a trio with Michael Harrison <\/em>on a self-titled album (with their full names).<\/p>\nThey refer to the album as a \u2018rhizomatic composition rather than a sequential excursus\u2019<\/em> (\u2018rhizomatic\u2019: a concept describing a nonlinear network that connects any point to any other point). A varied, associative collection of different atmospheres, each of them enigmatic in its own way.
\u2018Percussion, refracted voices, chirps and gurgles, other-worldly synthetic winks, reverberated piano chords, and yearning flute circumnavigations all surface sometimes in solo, sometimes synchronically to eventually dissipate again\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\nThere are introspective piano pieces, ghostly (\u2018flickering plasma\u2019) <\/em>voices, and collages of field recordings taken out of context. The more abstract soundscapes are balanced with more soothing tracks featuring JAB<\/em><\/strong>\u2018s <\/em>(bass) flute like Dwelling<\/em> and Pottery Fragments.<\/em><\/p>\nAs different as the songs are, on the album they still fit together beautifully, \u2018inducing listeners into a contemplative state through mellifluous repetitions and offshore sci-fi inflections \u2026 sounds and chords materialize and dematerialize as landscapes at which we gaze, half-asleep over a long journey\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n
