It was confirmed for me yesterday that the Watermission compound in Porta Prince, Haiti, where I painted the Last Supper mural fell out of their hands in 2023, when they abandoned the property and the country was taken over by gangs. This was part of my work on The Quench Project.

Thankfully, all the workers got out without injury. But the mural belongs to whoever is now occupying that compound. Who knows how they are treating my reproduction of the da Vinci? Is it being valued or has it been painted over? I hope its powerful transactional, transubstantial message inspires or inspired a moment or two of peaceful reflection and hope for those who encountered it along the way.

Honestly, I might ought to have updated it to reflect the racial makeup of the people of Haiti. I made the choice to simply honor the genius of da Vinci. Very likely, whoever is occupying the compound may not appreciate the nuance of such a decision. Order a coy of Quench, the book that documents my vision quest in Haiti in 2015.

![""]("https://i0.wp.com/maniscalcogallery.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/The-Last-Supper.jpg?resize=491%2C216&ssl=1")
