<\/a><\/h3>\n2023 is a very good year for Alva Noto<\/em> <\/strong>fans. Two soundtracks were released earlier this year (Kinder Der Sonne<\/a> <\/em>and This Stolen Country Of Mine<\/a>)<\/em>, and now we find the second edition of the HYBR:ID<\/em><\/strong> series he started back in 2021<\/a>. <\/p>\nStrictly speaking, this is a soundtrack once again. Or better: a performance score.
Like HYBR:ID I<\/em><\/strong>, <\/em>this music is commissioned work created for a Richard Siegal<\/a> <\/em>choreography: this time Ectopia<\/a>, <\/em>performed by Tanztheater Pina Bausch <\/em>in 2021. The stage setting for the performance was Anish Kapoor\u2019s Shooting In The Corner<\/a><\/em>. That \u2018hybrid\u2019 combination of dance, sound, and physical installation must have been quite an impressive, multi-sensory experience.<\/p>\nIsolated from the performance and its setting, the soundtrack is equally impressive. Alva Noto<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong> (<\/em>Carsten Nicolai)<\/a><\/em><\/strong> creates immensely deep soundscapes \u2018gracefully hover, reminiscent of celestial bodies orbiting in perfect cosmic unison. The sonic landscape gradually unfolds with somber and brooding tones, incorporating spacious sound design, ethereal atmospheres, and cascading metallic percussions\u2019.<\/em><\/p>\nCarsten Nicolai<\/em><\/strong>\u2018s<\/em> \u2018intricately manipulated digital production\u2019<\/em> is analytical and emotional at the same time. It\u2019s almost as if we already entered the era where digital machines show that they, too, have emotions. <\/p>\n
