Diseases affect both<br \/>\nthe structure and function of an organism\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIn today&#8217;s article, I will be talking about<br \/>\n 10 common diseases in poultry and their symptoms<br \/>\nfor you to easily identify them in your poultry farm<br \/>\n if any of them occurs. So stay through and read to<br \/>\nthe end to get the best out of this article.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nBut, before we proceed I had like to quickly state<br \/>\nthat diseases in poultry are classified into this<br \/>\n four main categories which are\n  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Viral\/infectious diseases<\/li>\n<li>Bacteria diseases <\/li>\n<li>Parasitic diseases<\/li>\n<li>Deficiency\/nutritional diseases<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nAll the diseases below are from either<br \/>\n of the above named categories\n<\/p>\n<h3>1. Newcastle Disease<\/h3>\n<p>\nThis is a viral or infectious disease caused<br \/>\nby paramyxovirus. It is highly contagious and<br \/>\noften spread by direct contact with respiratory<br \/>\n discharges or droppings from affected birds.<br \/>\nThough there is no known cure for Newcastle<br \/>\n disease, but, it can be prevented with the<br \/>\nuse of vaccines.\n<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<h4>Symptoms Of Newcastle Disease:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Nervous signs: Twisting of the neck, tremor and paralysis.<\/li>\n<li>Yellowish-green and an abnormal watering feaces.<\/li>\n<li>Loss of appetite.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>2. Fowl Cholera<\/h3>\n<p>\nFowl cholera is a bacterial disease caused by<br \/>\nPasteurella multocida.<br \/>\nIt is a highly contagious disease and it<br \/>\nspreads through contaminated drinking water as<br \/>\n well as droppings from infected birds.\n<\/p>\n<h4>Symptoms Of Fowl Cholera:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Sudden death.<\/li>\n<li>Lameness may occur in a chronic case.<\/li>\n<li>Nersal, ocular and oral discharge.<\/li>\n<li>Swollen joints.<\/li>\n<li>coughing.<\/li>\n<li>Dejection.<\/li>\n<li>Comb, wattles and face may turn a bluish colour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>3. <a href=\"https:\/\/ugnaija.blogspot.com\/2020\/02\/coccidiosis-disease-in-poultry.html?m=1\" title=\"coccidiosis disease in poultry\">Coccidiosis<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>This is one of the most dangerous and highly<br \/>\ncontagious diseases in poultry.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ugnaija.blogspot.com\/2020\/02\/coccidiosis-disease-in-poultry.html?m=1\" title=\"coccidiosis disease in poultry\">Coccidiosis<\/a><br \/>\n is a parasitic disease of the intestinal<br \/>\ntrack and it is caused by coccidian protozoa.<br \/>\nThis disease spreads through contact with infected<br \/>\nbirds and ingestion of infected tissues. Coccidiosis<br \/>\ncan easily be prevented through proper clean up of<br \/>\nthe poultry pens.\n<\/p>\n<h4>Symptoms Of Coccidiosis:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\nBlood stained feaces or bloody diarrhea.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nRetarded growth.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nWeakness or listlessness.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nRuffled feathers.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>4. Salmonelloses<\/h3>\n<p>Salmonelloses is also a contagious diease caused<br \/>\nby a bacterial. It can be transmitted via infected<br \/>\nbirds.\n<\/p>\n<h4>Symptoms Of Salmonelloses:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\nPoor growth.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nDehydration.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nDiarrhea and weakness.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nEnlarge liver with necrosis.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>5. Egg Drope Syndrome (EDS)<\/h3>\n<p>\nJust as the name implies, this disease<br \/>\n affects laying hens.<br \/>\nEgg Drope Syndrome (EDS) is a viral or infectious disease<br \/>\nwhich leads to sudden<br \/>\ndrope in egg production when present in<br \/>\nyour flock.\n<\/p>\n<h4>Symptoms Of Egg Drope Syndrome:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\nA drope in egg production which can be up to about 40%.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nProduction of soft-shelled, thin-shelled or shell-less<br \/>\neggs.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nEgg size reduction may also occur.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"background: rgb(192, 192, 192); padding: 5px;\">Read also&gt;&gt; <a href=\"https:\/\/ugnaija.blogspot.com\/2020\/01\/the-5-types-of-poultry-farming-you.html?m=1\">5 types of poultry farming<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<h3>6. Cage Layer Fatigue<\/h3>\n<p>\nThis is a condition that affects caged hens that<br \/>\nare at their peak in terms of egg production.<br \/>\nIt is a relative condition that may be associated<br \/>\nwith osteoporosis in chickens.<br \/>\nCage Layer Fatigue is believed to be caused by<br \/>\nmalnutrition hence it is a nutritional or deficiency<br \/>\ndisease.\n<\/p>\n<h4>Symptoms Of Cage Layer Fatigue:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\nFragile bones.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nAffected birds may tend to always lie down.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nReduction in feed intake may also occur.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>7. Histomoniasis<\/h3>\n<p>\nThis is a parasitic disease caused by Histomonas<br \/>\nmeleagridis which is an anaerobic protozoan parasite.<br \/>\nHistomoniasis is also known as blackhead disease that<br \/>\n mostly affects turkeys and chickens.<br \/>\nIsolation of infected birds is an effective<br \/>\nway of preventing the spread of this parasitic<br \/>\ndisease.\n<\/p>\n<h4>Symptoms Of Histomoniasis:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\nDropping wings.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nListlessness.\n<\/li>\n<li>\n Yellowish coloured droppings.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nUnkempt feather.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>8. Marek&#8217;s Disease<\/h3>\n<p>\nThis is a higly contagious viral or infectious<br \/>\ndisease that commonly affect chickens, though,<br \/>\nturkeys, quil, pheasants and gamefowl can also be<br \/>\naffected by this viral disease.<br \/>\nIt is one of the most common diseases in poultry.<br \/>\nWhile no effective treatment has been discovered<br \/>\nfor this disease yet, vaccines can be used to prevent<br \/>\nits potential outbreak.\n<\/p>\n<h4>Symptoms Of Marek&#8217;s Disease<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\nVision impairment.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nParalysis of the legs, wings as well as the neck are clinical signs.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nWeight loss is also a sign.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>9. Infectious Bursal Disease (Or Gumboro)<\/h3>\n<p>\nInfectious Bursal Disease or Gumboro is a viral disease<br \/>\ncaused by &#8220;infectious bursal disease virus(IBDV).<br \/>\nIt has no known affective cure and it is one<br \/>\nof those diseases that are mostly<br \/>\npart of the vaccination routine in most of the poultry<br \/>\nfarms.\n<\/p>\n<h4>Symptoms Of Infectious Bursal Disease (Or Gumboro):<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Sudden death may occur at the onset of the disease<\/li>\n<li>Vent pecking<\/li>\n<li>Poor appetite<\/li>\n<li>Dehydration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>10. Fowl Pox<\/h3>\n<p>\nFowl pox is a viral disease of poultry caused by<br \/>\nviruses of the family poxviridae.
