Lyon, who worked alongside the Civil Rights Movement as a member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, used photography as a tool to speak truth to power.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cDr King understood that,\u201d says Best, who points to photographs made during the 1963 March on Washington and the 1968 Poor People&#8217;s Campaign. \u201cYou\u2019ll see the way these unknown photographers were embedded in the Movement, and how they are using photography to speak about these events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">But with the rise of neoliberalism in the \u201980s, the empire struck back, planting the seeds for oligarchy under the leadership of Presidents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huckmag.com\/article\/a-view-from-washingtons-streets-on-inauguration-day\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huckmag.com\/topic\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a>. In a section titled \u201cEveryday Life of the Servant Classes\u201d, Best observes the seeds of the present day taking root. \u201cIt\u2019s a real turning away from the idea of labour as community, and that working with your hands is personally enriching and gratifying,\u201d says Best. \u201cThere\u2019s a shift in photography: it\u2019s deadpan, in the street, and at lunch hours \u2013 about the world of labour seen at a distance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">While <em>American Job <\/em>reflects the radical shifts across the 20th century and into the new millennium, the exhibition reveals the tremulous thread from, which the working class is hung.
