It is unknown how many additional jobs will be cut from Dallas or other cities. By shedding jobs, the airline is expected to save over $500 million by 2027.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The layoffs will not affect frontline staff employed by the airline. Gate agents, flight attendants, and pilots will all be spared.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a letter seen by the newspaper, Southwest CEO Bon Jordan insisted that the first ever layoff round was a \u201cdifficult and monumental shift.\u201d He also stressed that: \u201cWe must ensure we fund the right work, reduce duplicative efforts, and have a lean organizational structure that drives clarity, pace, and urgency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The cuts will become effective in April 2025. Until then, the employees will continue to receive their pay and benefits.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Southwest\u2019s layoffs are the latest major change to come after a long-standing proxy battle with Elliott Investment Management. In October 2024, the airline announced their plans for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flyertalk.com\/articles\/southwest-outlines-plans-for-2-0-launch-including-assigned-seats.html\">\u201cSouthwest 2.0,<\/a>\u201d which included several changes to the in-flight product.
