For over a decade, the gallery has devoted its programming to elevating the visibility of artists from across the African continent to both local and international audiences.<\/p>\n<p>While broad in its approach, Umoja Gallery is perhaps best known for its support of local artists, offering a platform to emerging names such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/partner\/umoja-gallery\/artists\/muramuzi-johnbosco\">Muramuzi JohnBosco<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/partner\/umoja-gallery\/artists\/allan-kyakonye\">Allan Kyankonye<\/a>. Its current exhibition, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/show\/umoja-gallery-identity-and-spirituality\">Identity and Spirituality<\/a>,\u201d presents the works of Ugandan artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/hoods-jjuuko\">Hoods Juuko<\/a>. Courtesy of Greenhouse Art Gallery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"Box-sc-15se88d-0 ArticleHTML__Container-sc-72bc87bd-0 hsljei dCLIGr\">\n<p>Since it was founded in 2009, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/partner\/greenhouse-art-gallery\">Greenhouse Art Gallery<\/a> has become a pillar in its local community in the town of Olambe, near Lagos in Nigeria. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/princess-oghogho-iyase-odozi\">Princess Oghogho Iyase-Odozi<\/a>\u2014herself an artist, art administrator, promoter, and educator\u2014founded the gallery to promote both emerging and established artists from Nigeria and platform voices from across the African continent. In the decades since, it has grown to encompass a museum and an art training center, which offers arts and crafts education for disadvantaged groups in its local community. <\/p>\n<p>At the gallery, Greenhouse maintains a busy and broad program, where emerging artists have become its forte. This approach is illustrated in its current show at the gallery, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/show\/greenhouse-art-gallery-fresh-art-perspectives-i?sort=partner_show_position\">Fresh Art Perspectives<\/a>,\u201d which features paintings by two 1997-born artists: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/okeke-buchi\">Okeke Buchi<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/faith-michael-ogadinma\">Faith Michael Ogadinma<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, for its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/show\/greenhouse-art-gallery-greenhouse-art-gallery-at-black-owned-galleries-now-1?sort=partner_show_position\">presentation<\/a> at Black-Owned Galleries Now, Greenhouse is presenting a series of works by women artists that reflect on \u201cthe African Cosmology impact of women on society,\u201d according to the gallery. Last year, for instance, the gallery participated in \u201cChristie\u2019s Lates: Voices of Black Artistry,\u201d contributing to an evening of performances, talks, and workshops featuring multidisciplinary artist Shanti Bell and contemporary fashion and lifestyle brand Kai Collective.<\/p>\n<p>In partnership with the King\u2019s Foundation, the gallery also hosts the Akoje Residency at Dumfries House, an 18th-century Scottish country house. The program provides selected artists with opportunities to develop their practice through workshops, talks, and open studios. Recent residents include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/beya-gille-gacha\">Beya Gille Gacha<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/enoch-jr-chinweuba\">Enoch Jr Chinweuba<\/a>. Though still a young gallery, Akoje is quickly becoming one to watch in the emerging art scene.<\/p>\n<p>For its presentation at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/show\/akoje-gallery-akoje-gallery-at-black-owned-galleries-now?sort=partner_show_position\">Black-Owned Galleries <\/a>Now, Akoje Gallery is showcasing work from three painters. A multidisciplinary artist who studied at the Kyiv Academy of Fine Arts and the Sorbonne Nouvelle, Pomp\u00edlio Hil\u00e1rio was a founding member of the Contemporary Art Movement of Mozambique (MUVART), an influential collective launched in the early 2000s. Elia, meanwhile, is an artist and curator who has long taught at the country\u2019s National School of Visual Arts. As gallerists, the pair cultivate a program that spotlights Mozambican artists, aiming to push them onto the global stage. To that end, it has participated in fairs including 1-54 in London and ARCO Lisboa.<\/p>\n<p>In its presentation at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/show\/arte-de-gema-arte-de-gema-at-black-owned-galleries-now\">Black-Owned Galleries Now<\/a>, Arte de Gema is highlighting artists across generations and mediums. Working closely with its five-artist roster, the gallery aims to amplify voices from underrepresented communities while fostering dialogue on global and local issues, from the environmental crisis to migration. <\/p>\n<p>The gallery and its founders have been active in collaborating with institutions worldwide. For instance, it played a pivotal role in curating part of \u201cRoutes of Resistance\u201d at the Skissernas Museum in Lund, Sweden, in late November 2024.
