I think I can safely assume that you have no idea what the process of fermentation<\/a> sounds like. Well, look no further: here\u2019s the answer! <\/p>\nSimon Whetham<\/a><\/em><\/strong> was invited to explore the subject in 2022, and explored and recorded \u2018the sounds of various fermentations including red and white cabbage, green beans, ginger, courgette (a huge one donated to the project by the neighbouring florist), (non-lactose) kefir and mead.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<\/iframe><noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Organic Volatilisation Near Imperceivable\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/772622964?dnt=1&app_id=122963\" width=\"607\" height=\"341\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe><\/noscript>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The results were presented in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simonwhetham.co.uk\/ovni\">Swiss installation<\/a>, but now also as a release on the label experienced in the most fascinating field recordings: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gruenrekorder.de\/?page_id=20792\">Gruenrekorder<\/a><\/em>, who released it on cassette. Which is now sold out but personally I would recommend the digital download anyway due to the intricate details of the sound recordings. <\/p>\n<p>Listening to the detailed high-pitched pinches, sometimes near imperceivable indeed, reminded me of some of the work of <em>Jacob Kirkegaard \u2013 <\/em>especially the sounds of decomposing in his Opus Putesco part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ambientblog.net\/blog\/2019-11\/kirkegaard-opusmors\/\">Opus Mors<\/a>. When used in a pure documentary way, and when properly recorded, I can definitely enjoy them. Especially when played in the background, the sound of the outside world can be comfortably masked by the sound of another. <br \/>But it\u2019s different when I listen actively. Then, I need a more \u2018musical\u2019 approach: a composition created with the recorded sounds. Something that triggers my fantasy with tension\/release dynamics, or with unusual combinations, impossible in real life, suggesting a completely different world. <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Tssa\u00e4n\u00e8ne<\/em><\/strong> is a fascinating example of the latter. <strong><em>Emmanuel R\u00e9gis<\/em> <\/strong>(from Lyon, France) uses <em>\u2018sounds collected on Earth\u2019, <\/em>adding synths and software effects where required to create his <em>\u2018hand-sewn atmospheres\u2019<\/em>. And those atmospheres (I typed \u2018<em>artmospheres<\/em>\u2018 accidentally!) are vaguely familiar, but at the same time they seem to come from <em>\u2018a science-fiction universe that suggests vast, titanic open spaces\u2019<\/em>. Like it could have been a modern-day score for <em>Solaris\u2026 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Through sounds with earthly connotations, you no longer know where you really are in space and time\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Emmanuel R\u00e9gis<\/em><\/strong> is part of the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lesexplocreateurs.com\/\">Explocr\u00e9ateurs<\/a> <\/em>collective <em>(\u2018We travel into a sci-fi imaginary world!\u2019)<\/em> and has experience in creating soundscapes for their exhibitions and publications. Simon Whetham<\/a><\/em><\/strong> was invited to explore the subject in 2022, and explored and recorded \u2018the sounds of various fermentations including red and white cabbage, green beans, ginger, courgette (a huge one donated to the project by the neighbouring florist), (non-lactose) kefir and mead.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<\/iframe><noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Organic Volatilisation Near Imperceivable\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/772622964?dnt=1&app_id=122963\" width=\"607\" height=\"341\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe><\/noscript>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The results were presented in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simonwhetham.co.uk\/ovni\">Swiss installation<\/a>, but now also as a release on the label experienced in the most fascinating field recordings: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gruenrekorder.de\/?page_id=20792\">Gruenrekorder<\/a><\/em>, who released it on cassette. Which is now sold out but personally I would recommend the digital download anyway due to the intricate details of the sound recordings. <\/p>\n<p>Listening to the detailed high-pitched pinches, sometimes near imperceivable indeed, reminded me of some of the work of <em>Jacob Kirkegaard \u2013 <\/em>especially the sounds of decomposing in his Opus Putesco part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ambientblog.net\/blog\/2019-11\/kirkegaard-opusmors\/\">Opus Mors<\/a>. When used in a pure documentary way, and when properly recorded, I can definitely enjoy them. Especially when played in the background, the sound of the outside world can be comfortably masked by the sound of another. <br \/>But it\u2019s different when I listen actively. Then, I need a more \u2018musical\u2019 approach: a composition created with the recorded sounds. Something that triggers my fantasy with tension\/release dynamics, or with unusual combinations, impossible in real life, suggesting a completely different world. <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Tssa\u00e4n\u00e8ne<\/em><\/strong> is a fascinating example of the latter. <strong><em>Emmanuel R\u00e9gis<\/em> <\/strong>(from Lyon, France) uses <em>\u2018sounds collected on Earth\u2019, <\/em>adding synths and software effects where required to create his <em>\u2018hand-sewn atmospheres\u2019<\/em>. And those atmospheres (I typed \u2018<em>artmospheres<\/em>\u2018 accidentally!) are vaguely familiar, but at the same time they seem to come from <em>\u2018a science-fiction universe that suggests vast, titanic open spaces\u2019<\/em>. Like it could have been a modern-day score for <em>Solaris\u2026 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Through sounds with earthly connotations, you no longer know where you really are in space and time\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Emmanuel R\u00e9gis<\/em><\/strong> is part of the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lesexplocreateurs.com\/\">Explocr\u00e9ateurs<\/a> <\/em>collective <em>(\u2018We travel into a sci-fi imaginary world!\u2019)<\/em> and has experience in creating soundscapes for their exhibitions and publications. \n<\/iframe><noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Organic Volatilisation Near Imperceivable\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/772622964?dnt=1&app_id=122963\" width=\"607\" height=\"341\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe><\/noscript>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The results were presented in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simonwhetham.co.uk\/ovni\">Swiss installation<\/a>, but now also as a release on the label experienced in the most fascinating field recordings: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gruenrekorder.de\/?page_id=20792\">Gruenrekorder<\/a><\/em>, who released it on cassette. Which is now sold out but personally I would recommend the digital download anyway due to the intricate details of the sound recordings. <\/p>\n<p>Listening to the detailed high-pitched pinches, sometimes near imperceivable indeed, reminded me of some of the work of <em>Jacob Kirkegaard \u2013 <\/em>especially the sounds of decomposing in his Opus Putesco part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ambientblog.net\/blog\/2019-11\/kirkegaard-opusmors\/\">Opus Mors<\/a>. When used in a pure documentary way, and when properly recorded, I can definitely enjoy them. Especially when played in the background, the sound of the outside world can be comfortably masked by the sound of another. <br \/>But it\u2019s different when I listen actively. Then, I need a more \u2018musical\u2019 approach: a composition created with the recorded sounds. Something that triggers my fantasy with tension\/release dynamics, or with unusual combinations, impossible in real life, suggesting a completely different world. <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Tssa\u00e4n\u00e8ne<\/em><\/strong> is a fascinating example of the latter. <strong><em>Emmanuel R\u00e9gis<\/em> <\/strong>(from Lyon, France) uses <em>\u2018sounds collected on Earth\u2019, <\/em>adding synths and software effects where required to create his <em>\u2018hand-sewn atmospheres\u2019<\/em>. And those atmospheres (I typed \u2018<em>artmospheres<\/em>\u2018 accidentally!) are vaguely familiar, but at the same time they seem to come from <em>\u2018a science-fiction universe that suggests vast, titanic open spaces\u2019<\/em>. Like it could have been a modern-day score for <em>Solaris\u2026 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Through sounds with earthly connotations, you no longer know where you really are in space and time\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Emmanuel R\u00e9gis<\/em><\/strong> is part of the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lesexplocreateurs.com\/\">Explocr\u00e9ateurs<\/a> <\/em>collective <em>(\u2018We travel into a sci-fi imaginary world!\u2019)<\/em> and has experience in creating soundscapes for their exhibitions and publications.
