<\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\nCOMES \/ VELDMAN \u2013 MANIFEST EXO<\/a>DUS<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\nManifest Exodus<\/em><\/strong> is the second collaboration of Martijn Comes<\/a><\/em><\/strong> and Hessel Veldman<\/em><\/strong> (their first was Epox<\/a><\/em> in 2020). The two artists share their interest in \u2018timbral\u2019 <\/em>electro-acoustic music, both not afraid to explore the abrasive side of music but also looking for harmony within the noise. <\/p>\nAnd that is the fascinating sonic contradiction: while there is quite some noise within these sounds (as can be heard immediately in the opener Firstborn)<\/em>, there is also something resigned about it \u2013 as if one can come at peace with the turmoil. As the album progresses, the sound gets somewhat quieter without ever getting \u2018slick\u2019. <\/p>\nComes<\/strong><\/em> and Veldman<\/em><\/strong> describe the process of creating this album as \u2018a musical exploration and a search for peace, balance and above all freedom. Reaching out to a distant world, a place to come to terms with ourselves\u2019.<\/em> Which, as reflected in their sound, is not a simple quest in these perilous times.
According to the liner notes, they even consulted a reverend for this album, \u2018because of the emotional and poetic weight of the pieces\u2019.<\/em> Curiously, the advice of this reverend remains undisclosed. We can only wonder \u2013 maybe he was the one who advised on the track titles\u2026<\/p>\n\u201cThroughout the chapters of this album layers of sound and distant voices arise and seem to float on the surface before they disappear again. Swaying on the gentle waves, running ashore, we find ourselves in unknown places.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0
