As always, each <em>IIKKI <\/em>releases pairs the music to a photography book: this edition presents the work of French photographer <em><a href=\"https:\/\/edouardelias.net\/en\/\"><strong>Edouard Elias<\/strong><\/a><\/em> in dialogue with <strong><em>Aiko Takahashi<\/em> <\/strong>\u2013 an electronic music producer from Kobe, Japan. <\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"lazy lazy-hidden\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"vimeo-player\" data-lazy-type=\"iframe\" data-src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/889157033?h=4b549807cb\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"vimeo-player\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/889157033?h=4b549807cb\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It remains unclear who exactly this <strong><em>Aiko Takahashi <\/em><\/strong>is: she <em>\u2018is a concept, an entity, a ghost that appears only through her own music\u2019<\/em>, who has previously released under other (unmentioned) names, but <em>\u2018materialized\u2019 <\/em>as <strong><em>Aiko <\/em><\/strong>in 2022. (It makes me wonder if there is any relation to <em>Iu Takahashi<\/em>, who recently released an album through <em>Laaps. <\/em>But based on their description this probably is a coincidence.)<\/p>\n<p>There are four tracks on this album (three on the vinyl version but the missing track is available in the download that comes with it). Each track title completes the album title: <em>It Could Have Been A Beautiful \u2026 Afternoon \/ Evening \/ Night \/ Morning. <br \/><\/em>Each track is a sound collage<em> \u2018cut, stitched together and reassembled to give shape and restore unity from the fragments\u2019<\/em>. (Which is not directly related to his own musical output but I think it\u2019s a nice detail to mention). <\/p>\n<p>Without echo (and reverb), ambient music would probably not exist. On <strong><em>Tapestry Of Echoes<\/em><\/strong>, <em>\u2018the tools of reverb and echo become a metaphor for repeated events. Events that are never quite the same and add new layers to an evolving journey. New stories emerge and resonate with space\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>However, <strong><em>Caminada <\/em><\/strong>subtly uses these tools in these tracks and cleverly avoids overusing them. The (seven) tracks, created with <em>\u2018hard and soft synths, modular experiments and field recordings\u2019<\/em> all have a nice relaxing atmosphere (not unlike some of the work of <em>Biosphere)<\/em> \u2013 with considerably less effect than used in \u2013 say \u2013 the average dub-reggae track.  <em>\u2018The ambient foundations are always present, rooted in hums and quiet murmur.
