The Center for Artistic Activism\u2019s rigorous experiments help voting be all of these things and more.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Going into 2024, we had our work cut out for us. The year posed unique challenges \u2014 what had worked before was not necessarily going to work again.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-20 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-c4aa-clipPath-heading\" id=\"enter-the-artistic-activism-test-kitchen\">Enter: the Artistic Activism Test Kitchen<\/h3>\n<p>We challenged our <a href=\"https:\/\/c4aa.org\/unstoppablevoters\">Unstoppable Voters<\/a> community to conduct big, bold experiments that figure out what will work best in 2024. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div <\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>four weeks<\/li>\n<li>$4000<\/li>\n<li>endless mentorship and support from the Center for Artistic Activism<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-teams-explored-these-3-questions\">The teams explored these 3 questions<\/h6>\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-21 Lead with sincerity and comedy<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"has-contrast-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f90ffbc906c10acc45d9bbfb72455d0d\">People had a lot of success <strong>being real<\/strong> about how hard things feel right now \u2014 and then <strong>countering the negativity with humor and joy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-23 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-default has-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-166312fda5d1470c8a78e7a2c82bfa27\" id=\"2-make-outreach-as-individual-as-possible\">2. Make outreach as individual as possible<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"has-contrast-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-eb733dc8cfa7cddfce90ef4e698cc514\">The <strong>1:1 conversation<\/strong> really does work best. As much as possible, try to engage people individually for the most meaningful impact.Use Trojan Horses<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-24 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-default has-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7357fa0430b8a3210eb48a65082c32a0\" id=\"3-use-trojan-horses\">3. Use Trojan Horses<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>Lots of groups led <strong>projects focused on broad appeal<\/strong>: bar hangs, face painting, mutual aid, comedy shows. Once they had hooked their audience, it was easy to bring up voting and get people to commit to civic participation. Leading with voting would likely have driven people away or turned them off.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-25 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-default has-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4f7b1f2f102f3dd6c37bea7a2d167fa3\" id=\"4-make-it-all-super-easy\">4. Make it all super easy<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"has-contrast-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-344315783bcf7d37162caded1a5eae6e\">This is pretty obvious, but it came up again and again. Anything that can be done to <strong>make the ask easier<\/strong> makes it much more likely to get people to take action. For example, people had success when they:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>created templates so anyone could easily implement an action, <\/li>\n<li>requested help from people that really played into their interests and skills, and <\/li>\n<li>gave any amount of money to someone being part of an event.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-26 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-default has-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ffea5a9300222574cb525f6f591c1ca2\" id=\"5-experiment-and-evaluate-all-along-the-way\">5. Experiment and evaluate all along the way<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>If what we\u2019ve done in the past worked as well as we needed, we would have won already. <strong>Experiment as much as you can. <\/strong>It can be as simple as adding a fun photo to an email or a song to text message \u2014 or as involved as trying that new program you\u2019ve long had a hunch could be the way to really break through.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p>For a step by step guide to the Center for Artistic Activism method, check out our <em><a href=\"https:\/\/c4aa.org\/kit\">Unleashing Unstoppable Voters<\/a> <\/em>toolkit.
