<\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\nPUNKT | STILLEFELT \u2013 MODEST UTOPIAS<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\nFirst, Punkt<\/em> refers to the annual Norwegian festival founded by Jan Bang and Erik Honor\u00e9 \u2013 a festival with a distinct concept: \u2018live sampling and live remix of music. Continuous creation and collaboration\u2019. It is different from other festivals: for example, all concerts are remixed live<\/a>: \u2018the audience gets to hear the remixes immediately after each concert. In many cases, the remixers also invite musicians to interact with the remixes, making them a vehicle for continuous innovation and improvisation\u2019<\/em>.
But it doesn\u2019t stop there: since 2022, there\u2019s also Punkt Editions: <\/em>a label releasing \u2018Punkt-related\u2019 music (music that has the same adventurous starting point).<\/p>\nAnd now, there\u2019s also Punkt<\/em><\/strong> referring to a music collective: in this case, the core members Jan Bang<\/em><\/strong> and Erik Honor\u00e9 <\/em><\/strong>working with University of Agder music students (performing on vocals, electronics, samples, duduk, guitar). And, as if that wasn\u2019t enough, there\u2019s this collaboration project with British trio Stillefelt<\/em><\/strong> (which means \u2018quiet field\u2019): Chris Mapp <\/em><\/strong>(bass, electronics), Percy Pursglove <\/em><\/strong>(trumpet), Thomas Seminar Ford <\/em><\/strong>(guitar, electronics). <\/p>\nLike everything related to Punkt<\/em> \u2013 performing just outside your comfort zone as a goal \u2013 this collaboration was no standard exchange procedure: \u2018Stillefelt<\/strong>\u2019s performances in Birmingham were reimagined and enhanced in the Punkt Studio in Kristiansand before being returned for further creative input by Stillefelt<\/strong>.\u2019<\/em>
As can be expected in such a setting, this music defies simple categorization. Part of it is (dream-)pop, but there\u2019s also jazz, ambient electronics, and improvisation. But there\u2019s absolutely no predictability. And all of it is presented in a top-notch sound production.
