I just reach chapter 18 so maybe you cover this question later\u2026. Or in another book\u2026.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Tithing Question<\/span><\/strong> My husbands owns the engineering firm we both work for and get paid from. We have always tithed from our paychecks. The company makes various charitable donations as we see fit. But do you recommend that business owners tithe on the general business income? We have not done so in the past because it is not personal income for us so it did not seem applicable. Your thoughts?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jessie<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">I have written extensively about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/seedtime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Tithing-in-the-New-Testament.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">tithing and whether or not it is relevant for us as New Testament believers<\/a>, so check that out if you\u2019d like, b<\/span>ut for this article, I want to focus specifically on this question about tithing from your business.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Biblical Principles for Business Tithing<\/h2>\n<p>Let me share some <a href=\"https:\/\/seedtime.com\/my-tithing-experience\/\">key principles I\u2019ve discovered <\/a>through studying Scripture and wrestling with this question in my own business:<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Principle of Firstfruits<\/h3>\n<p>The foundational biblical principle is that tithing comes from our \u201cfirstfruits\u201d or income (Proverbs 3:9-10). <\/p>\n<p>For business owners, this most directly applies to the actual income you receive from your business through:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Salary<\/li>\n<li>Owner\u2019s draws<\/li>\n<li>Distributions<\/li>\n<li>Bonuses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Understanding Business Income vs Personal Income<\/h3>\n<p>Business income is more complex than personal income for several important reasons:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Operating Expenses<\/strong>: Business revenue must first cover legitimate expenses like:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Payroll for employees<\/li>\n<li>Equipment and supplies<\/li>\n<li>Rent and utilities<\/li>\n<li>Insurance<\/li>\n<li>Taxes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Business Reinvestment<\/strong>: Remaining profits often need to be reinvested for:\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Potential Double-Tithing<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Double-tithing could occur if you tithe both on business revenue and the personal income you receive from it (which is not necessarily a bad thing)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Practical Guidelines for Business Owners<\/h2>\n<p>Rather than prescribing rigid rules, here are four practical guidelines for approaching business tithing:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Maintain Personal Tithing<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Continue tithing on personal income received from the business<\/li>\n<li>This fulfills the biblical principle of firstfruits giving<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Use Business as a Giving Channel<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Consider business <a href=\"https:\/\/seedtime.com\/charitable-giving-guide\/\">charitable giving<\/a> as an additional kingdom impact<\/li>\n<li>Look for opportunities to be generous through your business platform<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Seek God\u2019s Direction<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pray about whether to increase personal or business giving<\/li>\n<li>Listen for specific guidance about giving opportunities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Look for Ministry Opportunities<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Consider how your business can uniquely support kingdom work<\/li>\n<li>Be open to non-financial ways your business can contribute<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Heart of Business Tithing<\/h2>\n<p>Jesus consistently emphasized the heart behind our giving over rigid rules.<\/p>\n<p>The New Testament <a href=\"https:\/\/seedtime.com\/tithing-in-the-new-testament\/\">expands our understanding of generosity beyond the tithe to encompass all our resources<\/a> \u2013 both personal and business.<\/p>\n<p>When we view our businesses as platforms for kingdom impact, the question shifts from \u201cHow much must I give?\u201d to \u201cHow can this business best honor God and serve others?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re thoughtfully considering these questions, it shows a desire to be a faithful steward of what God has entrusted to you. <\/p>\n<p>I believe that\u2019s exactly the kind of heart posture God is looking for.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Moving Forward<\/h2>\n<p>As you consider how to handle business tithing let me recommend:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Continue tithing on personal income<\/li>\n<li>Maintain business charitable giving as God leads<\/li>\n<li>Stay open to increasing either personal or business giving<\/li>\n<li>Look for unique ways your business can support ministry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Remember, the goal isn\u2019t to create burdensome rules but to develop a generous heart that seeks to honor God with all our resources.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d encourage you to keep pressing into God\u2019s guidance for your specific situation.
