This change affects passengers traveling on Light fare tickets (equivalent to Basic Economy in the US) across their entire network, including popular routes between the United States and Europe.<\/p>\n<h2>What American Travelers Need to Know<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Effective Dates:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Air France: February 11, 2025<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sovrn.co\/swxsnue\">KLM<\/a>: February 20, 2025<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Routes Affected:<\/strong>\u00a0All flights, including US-Europe routes<\/li>\n<li><strong>Impact:<\/strong>\u00a0Passengers must either pay for seat selection or accept random assignment<\/li>\n<li><strong>Family Travel:<\/strong>\u00a0Groups booked together will still be seated together when possible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/insideflyer.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Flight-Review-KLM-Economy-Comfort-Amsterdam-Schiphol-Hong-Kong-Boeing-777-200-KL887-AMS-HKG-24-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"KLM Economy Comfort Cabin\"\/><\/figure>\n<h2>Who Gets Free Seat Selection?<\/h2>\n<p>The following passengers are exempt from these changes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Flying Blue elite members (Silver, Gold, Platinum, Ultimate)<\/li>\n<li>Passengers with disabilities<\/li>\n<li>Group bookings<\/li>\n<li>Most corporate travelers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Important Note for Bluebiz Members<\/strong>: These changes do affect Bluebiz members, who will need to pay for standard seat selection. Additionally, Bluebiz members can no longer earn blue credits on Economy Light tickets, though other programme benefits remain unchanged.<\/p>\n<h2>Bottom Line<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re planning to fly <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sovrn.co\/swxsnue\">KLM<\/a> or Air France from the US to Europe on Light fares after February 2025, budget for seat selection fees.
