Why Read It?: If you love classic fantasy races and epic quests, this book is a must-read. “The Dwarves” is the first in a series that brings the often-overlooked dwarven race to the forefront of an epic saga. With gripping battles, rich lore, and a hefty dose of dwarven stubbornness, it’s perfect for fans of Tolkien and anyone looking for a fresh perspective in the fantasy genre.
What to Expect: Expect plenty of axe-wielding action, a richly detailed world, and a protagonist who defies the odds. This is an immersive dive into a world where the fate of the land rests on the shoulders of the stoutest of heroes.

🤔 The Shadow Rising by Robert Jordan

Why Read It?: As the fourth book in the monumental “Wheel of Time” series, “The Shadow Rising” continues to expand Robert Jordan’s vast and intricate world. This series is a cornerstone of modern fantasy, and this instalment is particularly beloved for its deep character development and complex plot threads.
What to Expect: Political intrigue, powerful channelers, and a deeper look into the Aiel culture. This is a chunky read, but if you’re invested in the series, it’s a rewarding journey that pushes the story into new and exciting territories.

🪄 The Magicians Guild by Trudi Canavan (A Re-Read)

Why Read It Again?: I first read “The Magician’s Guild” years ago, and it’s a book that’s stuck with me ever since. It’s the first in “The Black Magician” trilogy, set in a world where magic is the privilege of the elite—until one young girl, Sonea, disrupts the status quo. I’m excited to revisit Sonea’s journey, and I’m curious to see if it’s just as enchanting on a second read.
What to Expect: A blend of underdog story, magical training, and political intrigue. Canavan’s world-building and character dynamics make it a captivating read, whether it’s your first time or a revisit.

💎 The Silmarillion by JRR Tolkien

Why Read It?: If you’re a Tolkien fan who’s ventured beyond “The Lord of the Rings,” then “The Silmarillion” is a must-read. It’s a dense, richly woven tapestry of Middle-earth’s history, detailing the world’s creation, the rise and fall of great kingdoms, and the tragic fates of its many heroes. It’s a challenging read but incredibly rewarding for those who love the depth and mythology behind Tolkien’s world.
What to Expect: Epic battles, grand tales of heroism and betrayal, and a deeper understanding of the world of Middle-earth. It’s more akin to reading ancient myths than a straightforward novel, but it’s an experience that enriches the lore of Tolkien’s universe.

🦁 The Magicians Nephew by C.S. Lewis (A Re-Read)

Why Read It Again?: “The Magician’s Nephew” is the sixth book in publication order of “The Chronicles of Narnia” but serves as the prequel to the entire series. It’s a whimsical yet profound tale of creation, temptation, and courage that sets the stage for the adventures in Narnia. Re-reading it feels like stepping back into childhood, with all the wonder and moral lessons that C.S. Lewis weaves so beautifully into his stories.
What to Expect: A journey into the origins of Narnia, a glimpse of the White Witch before she became a queen, and the enchanting creation of a world by Aslan’s song. It’s a short, sweet, and magical read that’s perfect for a cosy winter day.
