It is designed to work together with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simoahava.com\/custom-templates\/transaction-id-logger\/\">Transaction ID Logger<\/a> tag template.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"description\">Description<\/h3>\n<p>When you create a variable with this template, you need to configure two settings.<\/p>\n<p>First, you need to provide the <strong>Transaction ID<\/strong> that will be checked against the stored IDs. Typically this would be a Data Layer Variable that returns the ID from an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simoahava.com\/analytics\/enhanced-ecommerce-guide-for-google-tag-manager\/\">Enhanced Ecommerce<\/a> object or from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simoahava.com\/analytics\/google-analytics-4-ecommerce-guide-google-tag-manager\/\">GA4 dataLayer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When the variable is resolved, it looks for a <strong>browser cookie<\/strong> and\/or a <code>localStorage<\/code> entry named <strong>__tid_gtm<\/strong>. This is created by the Transaction ID Logger tag template.<\/p>\n<p>The entry contains an array of all the transaction IDs recorded by the Transaction ID Logger tag.<\/p>\n<p>The variable checks if the Transaction ID the user provided is found within this array, and if a match is made, it returns <code>true<\/code>. If no match is made, the variable returns <code>false<\/code>.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of a boolean return value, you can also choose to have the variable return the full array of stored Transaction IDs, in case you want to process this information for some other reason.<\/p>\n<p>You can use the variable to conditionally <em>block<\/em> purchase tags from firing again if the user returns to the purchase page after the purchase has already been registered.<\/p>\n<p>This is an alternative solution to my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simoahava.com\/analytics\/prevent-google-analytics-duplicate-transactions-with-customtask\/\">Universal Analytics\u2019 <code>customTask<\/code> deduper<\/a>, as platforms like GA4 and Facebook do not support <code>customTask<\/code>.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"release-notes\">Release notes<\/h3>\n<table>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th>Date<\/th>\n<th>Changeset<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>11 December 2020<\/td>\n<td>Initial release.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table><\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Transaction ID Reader custom variable template is a variable template for Google Tag Manager\u2019s community template gallery.
