Britt reintroduces Retirement Fairness for Charities and Educational Institutions Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">U.S. Senators Katie Britt, R-Ala., Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., Dr. Bill Cassidy, R-La., and Gary Peters, D-Mich., Thursday reintroduced the Retirement Fairness for Charities and Educational Institutions Act\u00a0to enhance investment options for 403(b) retirement plans. 403(b) plans are a type of retirement savings plan, similar to a 401(k), offered to employees of non-profit organizations like public universities, hospitals, churches, and charities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe Retirement Fairness for Charities and Educational Institutions Act would level the playing field so more hardworking Americans can access retirement resources that best fit their needs. Our legislation would allow Americans in the non-profit sector to access the same investment options available to those in the private sector,\u201d\u00a0said Senator Britt.\u00a0\u201cThis commonsense bipartisan bill would help Americans who work for non-profits, including many of our hospitals, achieve long-term financial stability.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cAmerica\u2019s retirees deserve the peace of mind that comes with financial security when they transition into retirement. This is especially true for non-profit workers who dedicate their lives to serving their communities\u2014 they deserve access to the same retirement investment opportunities private sector employees have,\u201d\u00a0said Senator Reverend\u00a0Warnock.\u00a0\u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m proud to help lead this bipartisan legislation which provides equal opportunity for non-profit employees and helps ensure they can retire with dignity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cNon-profit employees should have the same access to investment strategies for their retirement plans as private sector employees,\u201d\u00a0said Dr. Cassidy.\u00a0\u201cSocial Security is going insolvent. We need to give Americans every tool to help make their retirement more secure.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cHardworking public service\u00a0and non-profit\u00a0employees\u00a0who support our\u00a0health care\u00a0and human services, arts and culture, civic engagement, and more deserve access to all available\u00a0financial\u00a0tools that can help them plan for\u00a0retirement,\u201d\u00a0said Senator Peters.\u00a0\u201cThis legislation would put those using a 403(b) plan on a level playing field with other\u00a0retirement\u00a0plan participants\u00a0by allowing them to invest in collective investment trusts, giving them an equal opportunity to achieve their financial goals.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The\u00a0Retirement Fairness for Charities and Educational Institutions Act\u00a0has received significant support, including the Alabama Association of Nonprofits, American Bankers Association,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">American Benefits Council, American Heart Association, American Life Insurance Association, American Retirement Association<\/span><span class=\"s1\">,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">Aon, Church Alliance, Great Gray, Insured Retirement Institute, Investment Company Institute, March of Dimes,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">MetLife, Mercer, Mission Square, National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, National Council of Nonprofits, Nationwide, Prudential, SPARK Institute, Stable Value Investment Association, United Way, and Vanguard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cARA fully supports this legislation that will boost the retirement savings of hard-working employees at hospitals, universities and other non-profit organizations. Under the bill, 15 million workers at these organizations throughout the country will now have access in their retirement plan\u2014called a 403(b) plan\u2014to the same lower cost investments that are available to 401(k) plan participants,\u201d\u00a0said Brian Graff, Chief Executive Officer of the American Retirement Association.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-6\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<div class=\"zox-post-ad-wrap\"><span class=\"zox-ad-label\">Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The\u00a0Retirement Fairness for Charities and Educational Institutions Act\u00a0would expand retirement savings opportunities for non-profit employees by allowing 403(b) plan participants to invest in collective investment trusts (CITs). A CIT is a tax-exempt investment vehicle that provides a diversified, pooled investment option\u2014similar to a mutual fund. CITs offer greater flexibility in investment strategies for retirement plans and reliable, often higher, net returns for plan participants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cUnder current law, unlike 401(k) holders, 403(b) plan sponsors are not able to use this stable investment option in their plan.
