If your windscreen goes from frozen to boiling in a split second, it can crack the glass. This is called <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thermal_shock\">Thermal Shock<\/a>. If it doesn\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/resources.cadimensions.com\/cadimensions-resources\/why-shouldnt-i-clean-off-my-windshield-with-hot-water\">crack the glass<\/a>, it can weaken it. So, over time, cracks could develop. Before you know it, you\u2019ll have to pay for a new windscreen.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How To De-Ice Your Car Without Boiling Water<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Start your car\u2019s engine. Your car will immediately start heating up once the engine\u2019s running. Many cars have de-icing features too. Look for a button featuring three wavy lines crossing a rectangle. Press this button to activate your car\u2019s windscreen defrosting system. Don\u2019t be tempted to leave your car running and go back into a warm house. Make sure you stay with your car.<\/li>\n<li>As your car heats up and defrosts, use an ice-scraper on the outside to remove any compacted ice or snow on your lights, windows, and registration plates. You should wear gloves while doing this, as you\u2019ll get very cold very quickly otherwise!<\/li>\n<li>You can also speed up the process with a de-icing spray, which you should be able to find in most supermarkets. These feature a concentrated formula that will quickly melt ice on your windscreen, without refreezing.<\/li>\n<li>If it\u2019s been snowing, be sure to <a href=\"https:\/\/gogirl.co.uk\/news-and-advice\/snow-car-roof-law\/\">remove any snow from your car\u2019s roof before you set out<\/a>. If you do not, it could slip onto your windscreen while you\u2019re driving, which could result in an accident.<\/li>\n<li>Do not set out until you have a clear view from all of your windows, and until all snow has been removed from your car.
