\n<\/p>\n
There\u2019s not a lot going on this week, so I\u2019ll just share that I\u2019m<\/a> really enjoying Bluesky with its recent surge in popularity<\/a>.<\/p>\n I don\u2019t think there will ever be another \u201ccentralised\u201d social media community for Swift and Apple platform developers. Some people remain happy on Twitter\/X, some moved to Mastodon and found a home there, and most recently Bluesky is getting a huge influx of people. We\u2019re never going to all be in the same place again. That\u2019s a shame, but life goes on.<\/p>\n I stopped enjoying Twitter in 2020 and mostly left the platform by 2021, well before the acquisition. I gave Mastodon a go in 2023, but I never felt at home there and I don\u2019t use it anymore. I have been really enjoying Bluesky recently, though.<\/p>\n There are enough interesting accounts to follow that are outside of the tech community that my timeline is nicely varied, which never happened for me on Mastodon. I also love some of the technical features, like being able to remove the default timeline and opt in to new ones, like one that features posts from people you follow who don\u2019t post often<\/a>. Post labelling<\/a> is also really interesting. In short, I like what they\u2019re doing. But it\u2019s more than that, I\u2019m enjoying being there<\/em>, for now at least. It\u2019s fun.<\/p>\n This episode of Decoder<\/a> with the CEO, Jay Graber<\/a> is worth a listen if you didn\u2019t catch it. Yes, it\u2019s a VC backed company, which means they\u2019ll need a return at some point. Jay went into some of the ways it could make money on the Decoder episode, and while I\u2019m a little skeptical of the plan, it\u2019s worth a try.<\/p>\n Anyway, all of this is just to say that if you\u2019re also trying out Bluesky, you can find me at @daveverwer.com<\/a> and the newsletter at @iosdevweekly.com<\/a>. The main idea is: sometimes, you just can\u2019t randomize – it\u2019s either not possible, or it\u2019s unethical, or you sacrifice too much precision.
