In an October 5 Hot Ones Versus teaser, Dakota Johnson answered a question about filming the first Fifty Shades movie rather than eat a death wing. “I grew my pubic hair,” she said of playing Anastasia Steele. “For 50 Shades, the first one, I was both frontal and she was supposed to have never had a wax.”

Dakota Johnson at the Fifty Shades Darker premiere, held at Kinepolis Cinema in Madrid on February 8, 2017. The three are promoting Verity, the Colleen Hoover adaptation that opened in US theaters October 2. Johnson plays struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, Hathaway plays bestselling author Verity Crawford, and Hartnett plays Crawford’s husband. Johnson had already completed a full Hot Ones interview with Sean Evans in June 2025 while promoting Materialists; Versus uses a different format. At the end of that earlier interview, she told Evans, “I won’t be back.”

At Curzon Mayfair in London on September 24, 2026, Dakota Johnson attends the UK gala screening of “Verity.” Photo by Jeff Spicer / Getty Images.

Thanks for reading Thought Catalog.
