Source: ASX<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<hr class=\"Divider__HR-sc-aucjre-0 hrxmbx styles__ImageDivider-sc-1y47awc-1 bUmOgI\"\/><\/div>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">Latest Canstar data shows 17 lenders hiked a massive 289 fixed rates in just seven days \u2013 by an average of 0.24 percentage points \u2013 while seven others pushed through 49 variable rate increases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">That\u2019s a staggering weekly total of 338 rate hikes across owner-occupier and investor loans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">Canstar group manager of research Josh Sale said \u201clast week\u2019s RBA hike has set off a wave of repricing\u201d \u2013 warning of much more to come.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">\u201cOn the variable side, the pass-through has only just begun, with seven lenders moving 49 rates so far,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">\u201cThe fixed moves are the ones to watch, because lenders are not just passing on September\u2019s hike. Banks are pricing in higher bond yields and the real possibility of another hike, with central banks from the US to Europe and Japan all tightening through September.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"styles__ExpandedContentWrapper-sc-1ru2hv7-0 styles__ExpandedContentImageWrapper-sc-1ru2hv7-1 kDuwIj ipNbJY\">\n<div class=\"styles__ImageWrapper-sc-17n6uwl-0 dCoAjl size-full wp-post- wp-image-1172498\"><picture><source type=\"image\/webp\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 100vw, (max-width: 939px) 60vw, (max-width: 1112px) 70vw, 800px\" srcset=\"\"\/><img class=\"styles__StyledImage-sc-17n6uwl-1 hlcJVa size-full wp-post- wp-image-1172498\" loading=\"eager\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1172498\" data-capiid=\"d23646759a61f913084002b8ace2328d\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 100vw, (max-width: 939px) 60vw, (max-width: 1112px) 70vw, 800px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=&quot;http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg&quot; viewBox=&quot;0 0 1280 720&quot;%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" srcset=\"\" alt=\"Generic Pix\"\/><\/picture><\/div>\n<div class=\"styles__Caption-sc-1y47awc-0 cruTJI\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-1172498\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Many lenders are yet to announce their response to the new cash rate target.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<hr class=\"Divider__HR-sc-aucjre-0 hrxmbx styles__ImageDivider-sc-1y47awc-1 bUmOgI\"\/><\/div>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">Canstar\u2019s database shows just two variable interest rates below 5.75 per cent remain across the entire country \u2013 and even those will be gone in next to no time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">\u201cVariable borrowers should treat the next few weeks as a moving target,\u201d Mr Sale said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">\u201cMost lenders are yet to announce their response to the new 4.60 per cent cash rate \u2026 Expect a steady stream of repricing over the coming weeks, and the two variable rates still sitting below 5.75 per cent on Canstar\u2019s database are unlikely to survive it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">Households are near breaking point after four rate hikes in 2026 \u2013 in February, March, May and September \u2013 with a $600,000 loan seeing total repayments rise by $364 a month compared to what it was in January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">Repayments on a $750,000 loan now sit $454 a month higher than they were at the start of the year, while a $1m loan is up $606 for the same time frame.<\/p>\n<div class=\"styles__ExpandedContentWrapper-sc-1ru2hv7-0 styles__ExpandedContentImageWrapper-sc-1ru2hv7-1 kDuwIj ipNbJY\">\n<div class=\"styles__ImageWrapper-sc-17n6uwl-0 dCoAjl size-full wp-post- wp-image-1172499\"><picture><source type=\"image\/webp\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 100vw, (max-width: 939px) 60vw, (max-width: 1112px) 70vw, 800px\" srcset=\"\"\/><img class=\"styles__StyledImage-sc-17n6uwl-1 hlcJVa size-full wp-post- wp-image-1172499\" loading=\"eager\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1172499\" data-capiid=\"cc81b28f3381b798e905c533b2ecd284\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 100vw, (max-width: 939px) 60vw, (max-width: 1112px) 70vw, 800px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=&quot;http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg&quot; viewBox=&quot;0 0 1280 720&quot;%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" srcset=\"\" alt=\"\"\/><\/picture><\/div>\n<div class=\"styles__Caption-sc-1y47awc-0 cruTJI\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-1172499\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Owner occupied P &amp;! rate movement summary. Source: Canstar<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<hr class=\"Divider__HR-sc-aucjre-0 hrxmbx styles__ImageDivider-sc-1y47awc-1 bUmOgI\"\/><\/div>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">The big four banks have split in half over whether there will be another rate hike before the year is out \u2013 with CBA and NAB thinking we have peak and will remain there until August next year, while Westpac and ANZ have pencilled in another 0.25 per cent hike for November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">That would take the cash rate target to a crushing 4.85 per cent if it happened.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">Mr Sale said \u201cwhether a fifth hike follows is now a live question.
