Fuelling Around - S12 EP1\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/s3GglvjYfo4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"h-mark-blundell-on-starting-out-in-sports-car-racing-before-reaching-formula-1-nbsp\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mark Blundell on starting out in sports car racing before reaching Formula 1\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the wide-ranging chat, one topic Vitty was keen to know was whether F1 would be the racing championship that Blundell would hold most dear from his career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think for any racing driver, they get to F1, that\u2019s the pinnacle,\u201d Blundell explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI say the pinnacle in respect of the machinery, because it\u2019s the most refined racing car you could ever drive. Every input has an output. And it is what we all aim for.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn saying, is it the best racing I\u2019ve ever done? Actually, I would say no. I would say <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indycar.com\/\">IndyCar<\/a> racing is more competitive in terms of more understanding that when you roll down pit lanes, you\u2019ve still got half a chance to get a result. F1\u2019s a bit more relevant to machinery levels.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf you don\u2019t have the right car, then chances are you\u2019re not going to get the result. And also sports car racing. Like (the) camaraderie, sharing a car, going through a programme like Le Mans and then succeeding, yeah that\u2019s close to my heart.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Blundell also went on to discuss how his mentality was perhaps different from other competitors during his time in F1.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI came through sports car racing before I got to Formula 1, and a few of us did back then,\u201d Blundell said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMichael Schumacher, (Karl) Wendlinger, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Martin Brundle. So I probably came in a little bit with that sports car mentality and I was probably a little bit too open book.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo maybe not quite cut throat as I could\u2019ve been.
